84 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 Jow (93) New York | March 22, 2013 I was in MI for about an hour before i finally made my way here. Cool bones to the place but with a charming amount of neglect which in my minds fits what i envisioned for detroit. If i hadnt been eath cornbeef all we from St Pattys leftovers i would have tried their house made but instead i got burger with homemade chilli quite good. nice amount of michigan locals and i grabbed a few Jolly Pumpkin bombers to go. nice | 78 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 14/20 KPD (119) Michigan | February 19, 2012 Really sharp place an easy walk (2 blocks) from Hart Plaza. Good selection of Michigan Micros on draft. Food ok bar grub, had a good rueben. Staff very pleasant as were the other bar patrons I had a great time and look forward to going back. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 14/20 cratez (151) Toronto, Ontario | December 30, 2011| Updated January 7, 2012 Popped in with my girlfriend on a recent trip to Detroit.
The bad: couldn’t see the chalkboard from our table so I had to order from the bar to get an idea of the taps. Asked the female bartender for a Huma-Lupa-Licious, waited several minutes, eventually the male server snagged me a pint. She then scolded the two of us, claiming she had already poured the beer and it was on its way. They have a massive bottle list but we were not offered a bottle menu during our meal. Ordered the veggie omelette and hash browns while my girl had the French toast and bacon. Both dishes were lukewarm and lacking in flavour, but we bit the bullet since we were starving and in a rush.
The good: high ceilings, long narrow bar, and unpretentious crowd provide a great atmosphere. Good music and a comfortable, relaxed vibe. Our waitress saved the visit from disaster by serving our food quickly and making a solid reco for my second beer. $2.50 pints of Huma Lupa and Reserve Special were tasting lovely and the lady enjoyed her mimosa. All Michigan crafters on tap with a wide range of styles.
Overall: even though we weren’t blown away by our experience, I’d be willing to return as the selection is quite impressive. I’ll just be sure to *ASK* for a bottle list and avoid the mediocre food next time. Worth a shot if you’re looking for stellar beer in a cozy environment. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20 gunzur (3) Florida | November 27, 2011| Updated January 7, 2012 A unique, historic bar in downtown Detroit, featuring several local brews on tap and many more in bottles. Always at least a few top rated beers available. Decent selection of grub. The chili is great! Good ambiance and bar staff. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 swoopjones (230) Buffalo, New York | April 13, 2009| Updated May 27, 2010 Great looking long narrow pub. Huge vaulted ceilings. One small TV in not the greatest place. All Michigan craft beer (Bells, Arbor, Dark Horse, Shorts, New Holland, Arcadia to name a few) Food consists of burgers, sandwiches etc. Smoking is allowed which sucks but what can you do. Hard working staff as the place was packed before the Final Four. Great Michigan selection for a NYer who cant get any of these beers |
