78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 MikeF (204) Cleveland, Ohio | January 1, 2006| Updated May 8, 2010 Easy to find. Easy to park - there on a Sat afternoon however. A very british pub feel to this establishment. No food on Sat afternoon aparently. A excellent brew selection - with dedicated taps to seasonals and pub only selections. Founders brews on tap are unbelievable. Sample sizes (4-5oz) are available on all brews on tap. The service was very friendly. This brewery MUST not be overlooked while in Michigan You MUST stop here. | 84 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 JasonG (36) Salt Lake City, Utah | December 20, 2005| Updated May 8, 2010 Pretty unassuming place overall. A few tables, one dart board, a computer in the corner which seemed slightly out of place, big windows through which one can see the brewery. The impressive thing was the tap list. At least 12-14 of their great beer on tap, several of them brewery-only offerings and things they don’t bottle. Staff was pleasant and somewhat knowledgable. Note: no food on weekends, but you can bring your own food in and enjoy it with the beer. Definitely go here, worth a drive too. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 AlabastorJones (10) San Francisco, California | November 26, 2005| Updated January 12, 2006 Great burly dark Michigan brewery in the heart of Grand Rapids with some serious ales to reckon with, peanut shells on the ground ambience and is a really chill place to hang out and shoot some pool but horrible acoustics for live music, which is too bad b/c it’s usually good music. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 Rockinout (8) Kent, Ohio | August 28, 2005| Updated January 12, 2006 The taproom had a relaxing feel to it on this Saturday afternoon. The seats at the bar were full and so were three of the tables. No food today, I guess they bring in sandwiches for lunch during the week. I’m glad we ate before we got there. The beer was excellent as I got to try some offerings that they do not bottle. I would like to go there on a night when they have a band and get loaded on fresh Founders. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 tjthresh (85) Greenfield, Indiana | August 15, 2005| Updated January 12, 2006 Every brewery should set something up like this. Just a taproom, but I had loads of fun. They had something like 12 beers on tap inclundin Breakfast Stout and Red’s Rye. Service was shakey, but I only saw one person working. Food did the job. Pretzel rods with cheese, and peanuts in the shell. Perfect. Its a 2 hour trip for me when I’m in the area, but I can see making it again. | 92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 19/20 Dough77 (7) Aurora, Illinois | June 27, 2005| Updated January 12, 2006 Bartender said it was a little slow because of the recent summer break (thanks goodness) because it was still pretty crowded. But it had a nice feel to it, the service was great, especially once he saw me taking down notes. Got a growler of some badass ’03 Impy stout, a 6 pack with rabeus, a nice sweatshirt, and one taster of each of their 10-12 beers on tap for 60$!! Cant beat the deal anywhere. Look foward to visiting again. | 66 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 3/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 SuIIy (53) Burlington, Vermont | June 8, 2005| Updated January 12, 2006 I was never there for the food, it is served 11-2 during the week and is sandwhiches from a local deli. Great beer selection with brews on tap you cant get elsewhere. Ambience is good, dirty and down home. peanut shells layer the floor. free pool, darts and internet. good prices | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 Tmoney99 (366) Cincinnati, Ohio | May 22, 2005 Second time I have stopped here. Older building next to the Grand River in downtown Grand Rapids. Very clean with small bar and multiple tables. Draft and bottle selection is very good of brews beers and I have found new brews on tap on both visits. Service good and staff very freindly. Deli menu from 11 to 2 weekdays and delivery menus from locals aftrer lunch. Must stop location in this part of Michigan. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 JCW (105) Cincinnati, Ohio | August 13, 2004| Updated September 5, 2008 Its a really nice place to stop in and have a beer. Old building with a saloon ambiance. They have all of Founder’s bottled beer and many on tap that have never been bottled by Founders. Friendly service. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 18/20 Zach Diesel (7) Portland, Oregon | July 17, 2004| Updated September 5, 2008 My favorite bar in Grand Rapids. The old warehouse feel and constantly changing tap only selection along with great daily specials puts Founders on top of my list of GR beer bars. Good influx of local music and sporadic raffles with prizes like cds and bongs are also a plus. |
