78 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 18/20 deaconmike (9) Roswell, | May 1, 2013 If you are in Grand Rapids, this is a must visit. Food is counter service sandwiches. Getting fresh beer from the brewery is the real deal. They have their standards on tap all the time with specials rotating throughout the year. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 artmcd8 (43) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | April 1, 2013 Here for the KBS release. Despite all the trouble they had with ticket sales this event was really well run. The service was great and the beers were flowing. I can’t wait to come back sometime. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 charule (27) Pennsylvania | April 1, 2013 Went to Founders for KBS release. Nuts, people everywhere having a good time. Good selection and prices of Founders goods. Next year Ill need a ticket! | 92 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 fluffheady (46) Chicago, Illinois | March 30, 2013 What a cool brewpub. It’s an absolute must visit if you’re a beer dork. Or if you’re not. It gets crowded, but they have a dedicated service area that keeps everything moving. The food comes from a window. Basically everything is self service, but in a place that big and busy, it works the best. | 90 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 BrownALEx (5) Portland, Michigan | March 22, 2013 Great place to try a Founders beer (no duh!). All of their mainstays/ bottled beers are on tap along with many one offs and experiments. If you like deli style sandwiches you must try a sandwich here. If you are in the area this place is a must visit. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 17/20 hxcxor (2) Kalamazoo, Michigan | March 17, 2013 Made a venture to Founder’s before walking to a GR Griffins game. Ambiance is great - lots of seating, large windows and a casual atmosphere. Long taproom and bar. Wait staff regularly walks around asking if you need anything. Selection was good, not great, but was happy to get Backwoods Bastard on tap. Also ate the Backwoods Bastard sandwich - also good but not spectacular. Overall Founder’s is a great atmosphere with great beer and good food. Looking forward to my next visit. | 86 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 oeltroll (2) | March 4, 2013 Had a fantastic time at Founders. Gad a chance to try some fantastic beers on tap that are hard to find back home. Bolt cutter...wow!! Can’t wait to get back. | 74 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 20/20 joromiller (10) Holt, Michigan | March 1, 2013 For a brewery that is ranked in the top 3 in the world, it is tremendously disappointing to know that their Class 3 beers are rarely, if ever, on tap.
I have supported Founders for almost a decade. I love their best beers (KBS, CBS, Bolt Cutter and the like), but the brewery is growing so fast that it feels like the it has forgotten its roots.
Maybe I just feel a bit scorned by Founders and the manner in which they make their best beers available to locals (see the 2013 KBS fiasco with Brown Paper Tickets), but the company is becoming so commercialized that they seem to have left its biggest supporters in its growth wake.
All-in-all, it’s certainly a top brewery in the world, but there are other breweries within a couple hours that I have now chosen to frequent more often than Founders. | 54 AMBIANCE 1/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 4/10 OVERALL 9/20 gonzosauce (17) Ann Arbor, Michigan | February 26, 2013 Industrial. They seemed to have designed and decorated according to massive crowds and lines. Hint hint. And bare in mind: I fucking love Founder’s beers. Even their run-of-the-mill stuff, like Red’s Rye, is great, let alone essentially everything they barrel. But the brewpub is subpar; it seems the trade off for having very good beer that is very well hyped is the department store version of a brewpub. I’ll go back, and I do enjoy my visits, but I go for the beer. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 19/20 Beerman6686 (92) Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | February 13, 2013 My favorite brewpub, hands down. Ambiance is terriffic. Big open space, with lots of communal tables and smaller seperate ones. Huge skylight creates for a great atmosphere. One of the biggest bars i’ve ever seen too. Service is perfect, with a seat yourself, order from the bar idea, with a seperate food station with buzzers to come get the food when it’s ready. Selections was pretty great. Lots of classics as well as some amazing one offs too including death and Ba imperial stout. Food was deli food, but excellent quality and deliciously unique. Beers were prices very well for thw quality, and the food was very cheap for how good it was. If in Michigan, you need to get here. |
