(Visited 11/2011): This brewpub is near the Cologne cathedral in a heavily trafficked area.
The interior opens to a small service area where you can order beer from a barrel at a short bar and stand there and drink it. Past that area is the dining space, and they have a cellar as well.
Früh has exactly one beer available, their Kölsch and it is decent.
Service was about what you would expect at a crowded tourist spot. I walked up, ordered a beer, got the beer and drank it and that was it.
I did not try any food on the visit.
Overall this is an easy spot to drop in and check off a Cologne Kölsch style bier, but I would not put it at the top of the list of places to seek out.

Overcrowded tourist trap. OK kolsch sold at the highest price. Rude service. For me it’s a no go.

In short, I dig it. I got here at 10am on a Thursday and was greeted by relaxed, professional and friendly staff. This is a cool looking place inside. I only heading into the restaurant just past the beer dispensing station and rested in a nestled worn wooden booth with the classic Kolsch bar narrow light colored unfinished wood table. From the shallow depths at which I traversed it seems sort of catacomb like as the space heads off here and there down various directions into different nooks and crannies. The place consists of all sorts of material from dark worn in wood to light wood, tile, brass and stone that all seems to come together very nicely. Yes I dig it. The Kolsch was pretty good but on the floral side which I’m not a big fan of.

Near to the dom, Früh am Dom is the better place to eat and enjoy an evening in Koln. You can taste and savor the Fruh! And if you want to eat there are a large list of typical german meals.

Large and touristy. Not the best Kolsch is being served - but fresh. Professional and touristy.

Wers braucht...

A nice stop in Cologne, very close to the cathedral and Roman-German museum. They serve one beer, straight from wooden kegs, and it is quite good. The food was some of the best we had in Germany. Service was better than most other places.

I prefer Fruh kolsch to Paffgen. I know it’s sacreligious to say this but I just do. I prefer to drink Fruh kolsch in their other pub though. Fruh en Veedel in Chlodwigplatz. Far better place. No non spending Italian and Japanese tourists frequent this one.
