I dropped in briefly while waiting for a flight out. Quite an edifice (being an old municipal library). Striking appearance and it was a shame I couldn’t spend a bit more time, which I would have done if I didn’t have the Mrs in tow. The selection is excellent, the staff friendly and knowledgeable. The prices eyewatering. We sat outside in the beer garden where there was a faint waft of the smell of sewerage which was unpleasant and detracted from my enjoyment. I raised this with the staff and was informed that steps were being taken during closing hours that night to remedy the problem. Good to hear. Thoroughly recommended, but be prepared to pay Auckland prices.

I tried three casks and none were in good shape. I ordered small glasses of the Bohemian Pilsner and Bitter and both left a filmy acid residue in my mouth that reminded of stomach acid. Bile in their beer, beware. Funny thing, I very much enjoyed a bottle of their Munich Lager (which is a Pilsner) at a nearby restaurant, and that’s what prompted a visit to the brewery. Sadly, the beer was all in poor shape, which is a shame because the space had a great old-men-playing-cards feel to it and I would have been happy sitting for a couple of hours if the beer was any good.

This is a more or less classic English pub, everything very traditional. Fortunately they do non-trad taster flights, four flights, prices vary depending on what beers your order, which makes them more pricey than most other flights. Food is OK. Service is good, although there is no table service. No wifi either. Eleven parking spaces, for which you need a pass from staff. Beers were OK, but too many lagers/pilsners.

I’m not sure there’s much to be said about this Auckland beer scene stalwart that hasn’t already been said. A high-ceilinged, English-styled proper pub with its own on-site brewery. What more could an ex-pat ask for? How about a wide selection of cask ale, a wide array of bottled beers and a handy choice of craft keg? Job’s a good’un. The sort of place that I could quite happily sit for hours on end drinking real ale in proper pint glasses by a warm fired whilst the wind and rain howls around outside. A quiet, pleasant vibe on a Monday afternoon with friendly staff and providing a real taste of the Motherland on t’other side o’ the globe. I will be back with bells on, that’s guaranteed. All it needs is a darts board and billiard table and you’d never know you’re in NZ.

Pretty solid. British inspired beers and interior but not particularly spectacular. Very family friendly and straight forward and honest. House beers are of course the highlight but there’s a well though out bottle list (40 odd) plus guest taps. About $9 for a pint or large serving. Paddles are $16 for 4 120ml sized glasses. Of interest is the fanatical approach to serving temp; fridges are allocated to styles to ensure appropriate temperatures. Food is quality pub grub.

Full value for its top Auckland rating. A big pub, quite English, with a lot of in-house beers, many on the hand pump. They also have a large bottle selection. Prices are a bit of sticker shock but they’re normal for NZ - just watch the half pint price is more than half of the pint price. Again, that’s normal for NZ but annoying. But for the beer geek, allot several hours for Galbraith’s when in Auckland because you’ll need it to work through all the amazing beers available here.

Traditional English style pub located in the Mt Eden area of Auckland. The staff there is friendly and very knowledgeable about the beers they brew. There are 7-8 house beers and 3-4 guest beers on tap. There are also about 40 bottles of craft beer to choose from. The food served is great and compliments the beers very well. When the weather is nice there is a beer garden to relax in. The best bet to to get a rack of beers to sample all of the cask ales they serve. This turned out to be the ideal place to be on a rainy afternoon. This place is well worth checking out when you are in Auckland.

There’re lots of British style breweriana around on oak colored solid wainscott. Brew house is visible off side room. Carpet is dark blue with fleur de lis. Fantastic broad based menu reflecting the region. I had: "MAHY FARM BLACK ANGUS EYE FILLET ~ Pan roasted to order (med rare for me, although it was slightly underdone) with buttered calvo nero, bomba chorizo potato & mojo picon, manchego stuffed crispy queen olive, brava sauce. Damn, it was good! Fab sounding desserts too, such as Gooseberry Creme Brulee. Baartenders knew their stuff, were friendly, and helpful. Prices were reasonable for the area. Neat old building with high ceilings. Great back bar which was full service. You do place your order at the bar tho. Plenty of wood tables and chairs to sit at. Love to return some day.

Nice pub, located just outside the centre on walking distance. Friendly staff, good service. Very decent beers on tap and a great selection in bottles. They have more than decent pubfood. If I ever visit NZ again I would definately visit this pub again as well.
