Not a bad place at all. When I lived in Maine, Iíve visited here several times and found more than enough beers to take home that I couldnít find back in Maine. Honestly, I think one has to go here on a good day as yes, there can be shelves youíll stare at thinking well, where are the beers. It depends when you go. Smuttynose, D.L. Gearyís, Shipyard, White Birch, Rogue, Long Trail, Dogfish Head, Hennikerís, Blue Point, Ithaca, Victory, Sam Adams, Wachusetts, North Coast, Ommegang, Grittyís, Maine Beer Company and Rising Tide are the brewing companies that show up here in my notes that were there when I was able to spend time there. Iíve never had bad service there, but Iíve never seen this place crowded either. The value is fairly decent. Take it or leave it, for the Portsmouth area, try it. If you read this far, that means you read through all of the breweries I previously mentioned so there you have it.

People that are not from NH, need to understand that for this area it is a pretty good selection of beers. What you have to keep in mind is they have limited space and some brews sellout fast. If you go on a busy holiday weekend, they may be sold out of certain beers. Or it may look like they donít carry much. It can be very hit or miss. I get a lot of beer here because I work right over in Kittery, ME. They do have a decent selection of 22 oz and 750 Ml bottles that you canít get just anywhere. Sometimes itís worth the stop. Over all for the area, pretty good. Nothing is going to blow your hair back but not bad.

The store is on the gritty side, ambiance definitely isnít a selling point, but I donít think you should be put off by that. The beer selection, while not outstanding, is excellent for New Hampshire and the prices are also reasonable. The biggest downside is that some of the beer isnít super fresh. I havenít come across anything really ancient but it isnít uncommon to find cases, especially of the West Coast beers that are three to five months past their brewing date.

This is my main beer store. They have a great selection and always have good specials and good deals on cases. You can get kegs here, and a ton of great bombers. I just wish that you could break up six packs. Donít be afraid to go all the way to the back they have beer that they donít have in the cooler in front. They carry Green Flash which is rare for NH

A very ugly little store from the outside that is just as ugly on the inside. Walking distance from the touristy downtown yet also easily accessible by car. Selection is so-so but so is the selection in most of New-Hampshire beer stores. That state is just a no-beer-land surrounded by much superior beer states. Donít expect suggestions or anything from the staff, they work there because theyíre too sloopy to work at the grocery store. Quite a few beer in the store but the display just seems randomly organized. I suspect that when someone takes something from a shelf they put ďsomethingĒ back there, and after a while it becomes pretty random. I also suspect thereís a lot of past due-date brews in this store. A few big micro names, a few McNeils, a lot of macros. Anyway, unless youíre a local thereís no reason to shop for beer in New-Hampshire. Not worth a visit.

Even though many of the negative characterizations of this store by fellow RBers seem accurate my first experience here was overall positive. Good things were: I found the place despite only having a general idea of where it was, they were open around 8:30 AM on a Thursday when I got there, they had the #1 thing I was looking for (Redhook Treblehook), at least one guy there was pretty friendly and helpful, and I found a few interesting things I havenít seen in Maine. Bad things: they are big into selling cases of beer (and cartons of cigarettes), they have signs posted telling you they donít sell singles and their selection is kind of spotty. Not the best beer place but really not the worst either.

As mentioned, warehouse style. The selection was ok as far as NH goes. Not great, but at least they have some unique stuff. They had some organic beers that Iíve never seen anywhere else. The clerk was just a clerk...didnít know anything about beer. has some convenience store items as well, chips, soda. etc.

I get my everyday drinking beer here it has the best selection in Portsmouth
It is also dark cramped dusty and pretty much a dive. They do sell mad dog 2020 and Boones Farm need I say more. After saying that I donít go here for the atmosphere it is the prices that keep me coming back again and again they have a few bombers and odd English brews. Always check the cases because they often have stuff that is not in the cooler even found a case of Samís triple bock last year .As stated below you can often get close outs from Shipyard I saw last years winter beer at $10 bucks a case. So donít let the looks of the place scare you go in and snoop around its worth it

May 2007 Grungy, warehouse environment with narrow aisles and employees that donít know anything. MartinTís review is spot on and things havenít changed in the 18 months since he visited. I did get the new Smuttynose Very Old Brown Dog, but it seemed more expensive than it should have been and I really felt like the staff would rather I hadnít bothered to come in. Ummm, no.

For all the non-residants of NH, yes this place isnít very impressive. But for NH itís about the best there is. They carry anything that is legally allowed to be sold in the state. Like their selection or not, you canít find a better selection on the seacoast.
