Had a few, enjoyable, very reasonably priced Paffen Kölsch here with halver Hahn and Kölsch kaviar, of which both were also very good. Service is very attentive, the bar has a nice traditional feel to it and it’s far enough away from the city centre that you feel as though most of the time you would be the only tourists in there.

Nice friendly place close to the train station. I was there on a sunday night so it was quiet quiet. Nice atmisphere

If you want to have Päffgen Kölsch in a rather non tourist setting go here. Food is very reasonable priced and far ahead of the mediocre Brauhaus stuff you get served in the rest of Cologne. Only problem is that they accept reservations only until 6pm. So arrive early. Highly recommended. Location is very close to Hauptbahnhof and Dom.

Nice low-light atmosphere at the wednesday evening. The place was packed with locals obviously enjoying their time at the place (laughing loudly) as were we. Great kölsch, tasty food and nice staff. Reasonable prices too.

Tiny resto-pub serving extra-fresh Paeffgen from "cask". Very popular among locals, so arrive outside of the mealtimes if you want sit. 1,50 euros for the glass of kolsch. Enjoyable.

More modern place outside of the city center, but well worth the effort to seek it out. Their Päffgen Kölsch from the wooden barrel is as stunning as it should be, and the food menu is more inventive than the typical brewery pub (chicken hearts were very good). The place was packed for dinner, which made for a pleasant atmosphere, and the long tables filled with strangers help conviviality as well. If you are looking for a trendier place to have dinner with the wondrous Päffgen Kölsch, this is your restaurant.

This place rocks - wonderful food we had for lunch, the bratwurst was made properly, cooker properly, tasted fantastic. The atmosphere is also nice... it’s a neighborhood eatery with a medium sized bar against one wall, and on my visit I saw basically no tourists - we were the tourists, so we got the stares. One of my goals when traveling is to find the places where locals eat and drink, so I enjoy being stared at - it means I found what I’m looking for. Service was great, they even gave us an English menu to help us out, not something we asked for.

Max Stark is not a large Brauhaus; it looks like a cleaner, light and modern version of the old (and unfortunately retired) Lommerzheim; one cozy room, half panneled, two columns in the middle, high ceiling, typical Brauhaus-tables, friendly staff.
Instead of a classical wooden Paeffgen-barell they use a plastic-covered steel-cask, but don’t be afraid, it’s understood that the Päffgen-Kölsch is excellent here !
For those, who are keen on good food, here’s the right place: this pub is recommended in the german edition of the Gault-Millau gourmet guide ! Everything on the menu is freshly cooked and home made, no convenience or preserved foods are used (even the good french-fries are hand-made !). It’s understood, that this typical "Kölsch Gasthaus" offers mainly local dishes, e.g. "Rhenish braised horse-meat marinated in vinegar", but during the saison excellent chanterelles with pasta are highly recommended....!
