Cheap beer, thatís all there really is to say about it. At least, thatís all there was to it when I used to buy beer there. Sometimes would have to wait a minute or two for someone to actually come to the counter. Now they have a little U-Brew operation going there, but given the quality of the beer they sell, itís probably not worth it. Very small selection of lagers only; if they sold the Huetherís "English Ale" I might actually come here to buy it. But no such luck.
Frequent problems with 6-packs of Kings Pilsner (at least a couple years ago when I used to buy it), including caps not sealed properly (soaking my backpack in beer), bottles not filled all the way, and labels applied backwards or twice.

Visited on a quiet Saturday afternoon in October, this small store offers a selection of GC brews from the walk-in fridge, singles and packs. I picked up a single and embarassingly had to go back for two more when I realized that they were separate ratings from next doorís Heuther Hotel. (How does that work, anyway? Arenít they the same beers?) Friendly helpful staff manning the counter, and he didnít even smirk at my antics at gathering ratings. No brews or food served here, only the store, which is pretty bare otherwise. Overall, glad I stopped in but probably wouldnít seek it out for future 6-packs.

As noted below, the prices here are great. 4 beers available. Youíre hopefully not coming for the ambiance (none) or the service (really slow at working thru the fairly lengthy line-up of folks eager to get cheap beer). But thereís a reason for the crowd - decent beer at excellent prices. Unfortunately thatís currently the only reason.

Basic beers, samples are actual bottles/ Essentially the same beers used next door at the hotel. Some extract brewing.

good place to stop by and get a few ratings. their beers are pretty good and well priced but the retail store sucks and is often staffed by some shadey people. all their offerings are availible in singles o thats a plus. again i must stress that if in the area please stop by and pick up their brews but then flee as soon as possible.

Located in the heart of Uptown Waterloo. Very nice old building, shared with the Huether Hotel, and the Princess theatre. The place smells amazing, like boiling mash/wort. Delicious. Their 3 solid German-style all-malt lagers are always available in the retail store, and itís impossible for them not to be fresh. The stuff tends to sell, and they donít bottle a new batch until the old one is gone. The service is alright, not unfriendly, but sometimes it takes a while for someone to show up and cash you out (which means itíd be incredibly easy for someone to steal their products). The beers are delicious. But I wouldnít say going there is all that much of an experience. Decent place though. Theyíve been renovating like crazy, so itís getting a lot nicer looking than used to be.

This brewery owned and operated by the same people who own the Lion Brewpub, Heuther Hotel, Barley works, etc. But the beers are different than what is sold in the other establishments, and you can only get them in bottle form here. Three regular beer plus the occasional seasonal. Prices are good (like $9.00) for a six pack, and the Premium Lager is a damn fine helles when fresh. The ambiance sucks as it is just one room with no decor and there is dry wall dust everywhere, and a lone barren counter with a cash register on it. You can buy singles of each beer for those who just want to try. Service the first time was unfriendly, but the second time I was met with a friendly face. I wouldnít travel here just to swing by this place, but if youíre in the area, itís worth picking up a 6 pack of one of their beers.
