in the heart of the embarcadero before the trendy ferry building stores came about. lots of after work dot coms went there, still kind of haunted by that vibe. Gap peeps, Schwabb peeps, advertising peeps hang out there. two levels, lots of space, not too much ambiance. so-so food.

Last stop on a trip to SF last spring. We had a nice buzz going by the time we got there so we didnít mind the mile walk from SF Brewing. The place is really nice inside and the food is really good. I was hoping that they could wow me with something like their winter bock.
I was let down by a lot of aspects of that place. The service was sub par; they were just trying to get everyone to spend as much as the could as fast as they could. No conversation and no real info about the beer from the waitress or the bartender. The beers were alright but nothing really stuck out except the blond bock, not sure why I like that one so much.
We split a pizza that was delicious and the place smelled nice which made us hungrier. We eventually decided to just pay the tab and hit McDonalds on the way back to the train station. We didnít want to spend another $30. So overall, kinda mixed feelings on this place: good food, good atmosphere, beers alright, and the service was not that good.
Wow, great location, view and food and the typical Gordon Biersch beer offerings. But this is ďthe cityĒ and thereís way better food and better beer all over the place so why go here? I went here first back in the mid 90ís and really enjoyed what this place had/has to offer. These days Iím not sure it is worth the effort to get over here.

But still the lagers arnít as good as the Germans or the Tjeck lagers. Fast service (we were the 3:rd party in the morning) and a good selection of food. The view from the resturant is good with just one street between us and the San Fransisco bay.
Cool location near the water, under the bridge supports. Good beer, not crazy or creative, but always numerous historical styles to sample. Good food. Servers are friendly and helpful, even if they arenít very beer-wise. Vibe is nice, fairly high-end and swanky, but not uncomfortably so. This is one of the first brew-pubs I encountered, when it was new, in the earlier days of the craft beer movement. Iíve been back several times, and itís nostalgic, but Iíve learned that I prefer the more casual, rough-hewn type of brew-pubs. Check it out for yourself.
Eh. Iím not a huge fan of the beers, and the place ends up feeling like I crashed a frat party. Their "variety" of beers all end up tasting mostly the same. I do, however, appreciate the option to get taste/sample-sized beers.
