If you’re into pubs, especially historic pubs this is a must see place. Absolutely beautiful victorian pub restored to it’s former glory. Beer are from oakham so you have some decent stuff on tap all the time. If in Birmingham this is a must visit place.

Fantastic resplendently tiled suburban pub. plush carpets, wooden floors, mosaics, shiny stuff, well worth a look in just for that. In addition 5/6 oakham bers and 4 guest casks plus 4 keg beers to be getting on with. Very busy with football fans but barmanager still found time to chat a bit. Fantastic excellent value thai food. 20p off/pint for CAMRA members. All in all a great pub, shame they’d run out of Green Devil!
Beers sampled this visit: northern monk cossack brown, kernel mosaic, amarillo citra, minotaur mild

A beautifully restored Victorian pub located in Aston, about 2 miles from the city centre - number 7 bus, the Barton Arms is presently owned (leased?) by Oakham.
The decor is full of civic splendour, tiles, glass, wood and the pub is separated into a couple of different rooms.
Oakham beers on tap, supplemented by guests.
Food is good quality Tai, I ate here once before an England game at Villa Park (about a 20 or so minute walk away).
Ticking wise not a go to destination but for a glimpse into pubs of yesteryear well worth the trip from Birmingham City centre - allied to the fact you will get tasty Oakham hop juice on tap!

An absolute top-notch pub in Aston. Wow. Unspoiled Victoriana inside, opulent yet tasteful. An Oakham pub so you know the beers will be quality. Guest beers included Gloucester and Fixed Wheel (cask) with Tyne Bank, Burning Sky and Toccalmatto (keg). Small but very well-considered bottle selection. Thai food if you’re hungry. Almost perfect.

An update to my earlier rating from 11th Nov 2012 - visited again in July 2014, and the beer range has improved further under the new manager - a craft keg guest font has been introduced, on this visit it had a saison (Man On The ’Oss) from new Wolverhampton brewery Sacre Brew (which has an American brewster). Oakham Green Devil IPA is also on permanent keg. Guest cask also appears alongside the Oakham range. Thai food, ambience, decor and warm welcome are all the same high quality as ever.

An amazingly beautiful pub, in particular the interior , wish is amazing. Good range of Oakham ales, and a couple of guests. Restaurant area serves great Thai food, which you can also eat in the bar.

Nice place, odd mixed clientele of different smells. Great prices, some of beers were only 2.6 pounds/pint. Staff were very generous with sample pours - even compared to the US these guys gave great samples. Beers were all good condition but was hoping for a bit bigger selection. Surprisingly the atmosphere was the biggest let down. Certainly not bad, but didn’t feel as authentic as expected. Was there for lunch and thought food was reasonably good. Unless there is a big turn over of beers can’t imagine rushing back but certainly a must for overseas visitors.

Driven past and worked near this pub on occasions for over 12 years now. Its only a 15 minute drive from my house. Yet never been until today. In one of the worst areas of Birmingham like an oasis. Beautiful interior. My visit was during middle of day and there were half a dozen CAMRA guys there. Beer was in top condition.

Wonderful traditional pub with amazing architecture and decor, Oakham ales on tap which are always on top form and good prices. To top it off there is a Thai restaurant serving top notch cuisine. Recently has the addition of Keg and the new manager is really enthusiastic about bringing more interesting beers along with tap takeovers.

Decent little traditional English pub with four Oakham ales on cask (at the time of visiting). The rest of the taps at boring macro stuff and some ciders. The adjoining Thai food restaurant is a nice touch. Service was very friendly and the prices are standard, maybe on the cheaper side. Decent place - worth a stop if in the area, but nothing mandatory.
