Visited twice, first time was on July 25, 2013. Second visit on July 30.
First time only stayed for one beer, next time had a tasting paddle with 6 samples.
Plenty of taps of James Squire beer.
Visible brewery in one end of the place, on the 25th seemed like they were brewing as well.
Plenty of people in there both times. Also very centrally located and an easy walk up from Federation square. Nice fast service and no problem getting a paddle even though there were plenty of other guests around. You marked which beers you wanted to try on a paper, then they arranged them in the order they wanted you to sample them.
Didnít eat. A nice place to be able to sample plenty of the J.S. beers.
6 samples in the tasting paddle for $15! Great value!

The Rock Bottom of Australia, but even more dumbed down. The offer paddles of their beers, but their all rubbish. Had 2 brew pub beers that were so-so, but this is hardcore skip filled with tourists.

Extensive range of James Squire beers on draught. Not a bad option on a tour of the city.

The Brewhouse has a relaxing and friendly atmosphere and is quiet in the afternoon. The Bartenders i spoke with seems quite knowedgable about the beers. Before & after a "Footie" match the place is usually packed. The Brewhouse has 8 craft brews on tap, 3 are exclusive to this brewhouse only. Something for every taste. I first visited back in 2007. Still has the same quality brews. Good pub grub is available, although you have to order at the bar. The restuarant next door has a more extensive menu, but have to wait for the brews. Worth a stop if visiting Melbourne.

Can get pretty busy on weekends. Staff are friendly and happy to give information, though itís often too busy for more than a few words. Usually have quite a range of the Squireís beers on tap including some seasonalís not bottled. Staff are happy to give samples of their beers.

Nine of the James Squire brews available on tap but nowadays their beers just donít hold up well against the emerging Victoria micro scene. I didnít order any grub here and looking at the menu it reads your standard pub fare. Once again for a JS Brewhouse itís in a very nice location but I couldnít see myself going back there as thereís far better places around the city to eat and drink.

Looks like a new place that ílooks oldí. But then maybe itís been there a long time; idk i was just a tourist. It looks QUITE commercialized tho; capitalizing as a REAL BEER joint for those who drink bud or similars. I visited in the late afternoon; slow, quiet place. I was there for the 2009 Aussie Open. Thereís a room in the front with the brewery equipment thatís used to brew on site, supposedly. 5 draught taps are made on site: Golden, Amber, Pilsner, Porter, IPA, with 3 other James Squire brews on tap: (Portland Pale, The Craic?, Highwayman Red). One orders at the bar and they deliver your beer. . . avg-plus prices. I didnít try the food or even look at the menu. Holds a convenient location in CBD. As mentioned by another, decent place for the non-beer drinking crowd; not bad. There are better places to see while visiting; youíre not missing anything here. Although sometimes itís refreshing to settle for the simple, if youíve got complex or high standards, look elsewhere.
Love the city tho

...more a business than a brewpub. The bartender said they donít really even brew the beer there that they serve, and that is bullshit. This is not a brewhouse, itís just a place to buy overpriced James Squire beers on tap. High food prices, and for what you get, it is a rip off. Not that big of a selection of beer, and even less in food. There are much better places in Melbourne.
