This place is quite small, but it’s a really cool little pub. The bar itself is sort of a step or two down from street level and feels very...intimate. A little bit dark, brick exterior, and some bare brick inside. Pretty much crammed with as many seats as would reasonably fit inside this place.
Found a couple seats at the bar. Draft list is both printed and written on the wall. We had a couple Hill Farmstead beers as well as the obligatory Heady Topper can. Plenty of nice Vermont beers on tap and, in particular, a lot of Hill Farmstead stuff on during our visit like Table Dorothy, Nordic Saison, and a number of hoppy offerings. Nice!
Service was really quick and friendly. Ordered an appetizer (crab cakes, as requested by the other half) and they were solid as well.
If you’re looking for a huge, amazing beer list as a visitor, this place maybe isn’t the best bet. But, it’s a really solid place to sit and relax and drink a few beers. Would definitely be a regular if I lived around here.
One of the amazing members of the Waterbury Craftbeer Quadrumvirate (along with Prohibition Pig, Pro Pig Brewery, and The Reservoir). A favorite of mine when in town...cool vibes (small place so you may not get in when busy), great staff, and really fantastic food. Best of all...always great beers on tap...especially the cream of the northern Vermont crop.
Stopped by this place after the Probibition Pig and that might’ve been the only mistake. It paled by comparison on this evening. The bar itself is small and quaint and I dig it. That being said, it is really compact. The server didn’t really say a whole lot, and we had to flag him down to get our checks after a 15 minute absence. The two list wasn’t terrible, but a couple of the beers that were on their chalkboard and list on paper, but they’d kicked and no one said anything until asked and there were t any replacements in the wings. We didn’t stick around for food. The beer was reasonably priced for sure. Overall this wasn’t a good backup to the Pig on this day.
A rather excellent pub and restaurant right in the heart of Waterbury. The beer selection is great, with a strong emphasis on local VT breweries. The food is also very good. The bar itself is fairly homey. Friendly service. Decent prices. If you find yourself in Waterbury, it can be hard to pick between Blackback, the Reservoir and Prohibition Pig. I would have a hard time picking one over the other - they are all excellent - so I would recommend staying in the area to visit each one.
Vibe for a Tuesday is spectacular = great selection of music beating down wonderful smells coming from the kitchen and luring me to want some food from the menu. Beers were Foundation’s Afterglow, Lawson’s Red Spruce Bitter, Fiddlehead ’ s Amarillo Faber, HF’s James, and Zero Gravity ’ s Narconaut. Hot damn, what a selection and that was just what I wanted. My bacon and sweet corn macaroni was absolutely stellar. Think I wanna come back here, hell yeah, I am.
Nice small place. Crowd quite different than from what I would have expected. People are much older than I would have thought. Seems like they are usual clients that meet up at this place after their ski ride. The waitress was really kind unlike other places I’ve visited in Vermont. The service was quite fast considering there was only one waitress and she seemed to know the beer, which isn’t always the case in other brew pubs. The beer selection was quite good, lots of Hill Farmstead, Heady Topper, Focal Banger, SOS, etc.
They have wifi on site which is nice since for some reason my Roam Mobility sim card wouldn’t give me LTE / 4G signal.
Visited this place on January 15 and will sure go back in the near future. Pretty close other bars as well like Propig.
Visited on January 15th with my friend Stoned99. The place is really small i’m mean REALLY. Most of ther offering is on tap and the selection is top notch.
Most of the selection is from Vermont and includes beers from Hill Farmstead, Lawson’s, The Alchemist, Idletyme, Almanac, Fiddlehead to name a few.
We hit the place 2 times on that day @ 4 pm and later around 9 pm. On the first time place was crowded with what seems local on the second hit place was half empty and crowded with tourists or beergeeks like us.
Service is by far superior of any other Vermont establishment I visited. Your glass won’t remain empty to long without being ask if you want something else, a good thing if your on a beer crawl like us on that day.
Food is bistro / gastro pub we only ate the regular nacho plate it was good but the chipotle sour cream was maybe a little to hot for me and could derange your palate when in a middle of a beer session.
I would visit this place nested in this beer vibrant town no doubt. I like to try beers at is freshes point and draft is the best way to go in that manner.

Called here a couple of times to drink and once to eat, during a stay in Waterbury. Solid, fast changing beer list. Plenty of HF. Half pours available. The food I had (chicken pot pie) was good. The missus’ veggie mac and cheese was very bland. Service was good, if a little over familiar for a reserved Brit like me! Undoubtedly a good bar, but overall I did prefer others.
With 7 different HF beer on draught, nex two 2 LF (Session #2 and SoS) and cans of Heady AND FOCAL BANGER, this place was DA BOMB. We enjoyed it so much. This place is your local go to pub, with tons of amazing (D)IPA’s... Loved it!!
