A characterful pub and restaurant with one of the better kitchens in the area, and an extensive bottle list to satisfy even the pickiest Belgian beer drinkers. A number of hoppy-pale Belgian beer was available for us to try, the (assumed) beer manager was a younger man, knowledgeable, making very good recommendations based on what we were looking for. The bar side I canít comment on other than to say itís full of cigarette smoke and should be avoided for drinking beer.

This place is just a across the road from Struise brewery, so we went here for dinner after our visit there. Upon entering we learned thatt we should have booked a table, since the place was fully booked for the whole night! We decided to take the chance, and have a beer in the nice cozy bar, and luckily for us after a little hours wait they had a cancellation, and we got the table for dinner. The bar room is cozy, old wooden tables, beer posters and signs. 2 taps and a long bottle list including loads of Struise, other locals, and some sours from Cantillon, 3 Fontainen, etc. Good prices, Golden Blend was listed at 7Ä! unfortunately sold out, wich also showed to be the case with some other beers i asked for. The restaurant was nice, food was good and served in nice sized potions. Staff was seriosly understaffed, wich made the service a bit random, and rather slow. Actually while sitting at the bar it had a bit of Faulty Towers feeling, with the 3 servers taking turns walking in and out of the bar, into the restaurant, and the backroom , sometimes leaving it empty for up to 10 minuttes. That been said the service we had from the young guy (Tom Cruise) when seated in the restaurant, while still insanely busy, was excellent.

This rating is for the bar only. Tom Cruise has served me both times Iíve visited. The beer list is great if youíre a fan of Struise. Prices for harder to find beers are a steal compared to other bars that stock them. Iíve been permitted to buy a few bottles for takeaway at each visit. The food/bar snacks are excellent. The service from Tom Cruise (Bjorn) is nothing short of superb. He is extremely knowledgable, friendly, and accommodating. I told my friend this is now my favorite bar in Belgium. After I said that, Tom Cruise said itís only getting better. They are going from 2 taps to 15 in the coming weeks to include Struise, Kernel, and a rotating Trappist. The place is small but huge in character. I canít wait to go again.

Located on the outskirts of the village (exactly where you turn right to Westvleteren), this cozy restaurant is the place to go to for Struise beer if you happen to be here on any other day than a Saturday (when the bottle shop at the brewery is open). The staff are very friendly (the Tom Cruise guy even offered to call the brewey to let me in for a visit!) and seem to have sufficient knowledge of what they sell, and that means virtually all the currently available Struise beers (2 of them on tap) and over 100 other Belgian beers in bottles. I have just had some toast for a snack here, and it was quite good, but I havenít tried anything else. Not exactly cheap but really nice. A must-visit on the way to Westvleteren.

Big thanks to harrisoni for showing me this place. A bar that looks uninteresting on the outside, but which on the inside features a homely and cosy local bar with a beer list to die for, featuring an amazing range of Struise beers alongside a great range of the local Trappist and Abbey beers. Food is hearty in the bar and more along French lines in the restaurant. Service was very friendly although food took a while to arrive. Come her for a quiet authentic Belgian bar to sup some amazing beers and relax into the vibe.

Excellent cafe and restaurant. Now has a really good beer menu including over 20 from Struise and at reasonable prices. The restaurant does excellent and plentiful food. Service can be slow when the old lady is in charge but much better when the young guy who looks like Tom Cruise is in there -efficient, enthusiastic and very knowledgable.

I donít think (looking at the rest of the ratings) that I had the usual service. This place was uhm..... interesting. The old lady was friendly but didnít know anything at all about beer. Also Iím still waiting for my food .____." We just decided to pay the bill and leave. At least Kraddel got some good beers with him.

Bonito restaurante con agradable terraza. La selecciůn de cerveza es de cervezas locales pero tienen un montůn de struise. La cerveza es barata. La comida no esta mal pero es cara

This place is located pretty much right across the street from the Struise brewery which is the reason why most beer geeks would wind up here, I assume. There are several exits to this place which had us confused a bit. The bar, the restaurant & smoking area appear to function all pretty much separately, we popped into the bar which has a very old school & local feel to it and appears to date from a pretty old area but has been up kept well. The radio was playing a good volume & some locals were hanging out at the bar. Place itself is pretty nice. The menu features a pretty good selection of Struise beers, nothing new for me but I have had a lot of Struise beers. The rest of the selection is of a nice size & features some small local brews. Unfortunately not everything there appears to be actually available. For our first selection we got something else than we wanted but we didnít have to pay & could finish the bottle, that is okay. Getting a replacement order took a very long time. We never actually got our second order because the lady who was serving us put the other order in our sight on the bar, un-opened & one of us eventually asked for glasses & opened the bottle himself after staring at the beer for 15 min. The thing was, we only made a quick stop here & the idea was for us to just grab a quick beer which turned out to be at complete odds with this place. We ordered some snacks (I mean bar snacks & not an actual dish of food) and when we eventually left in 40 min. we still hadnít received them & they appeared to be in stage whatsoever of preparing them. I understand that we were more hurried than most costumers here but a 40+ min. waiting time for bar snacks & orders taking more than half an hour with only about 6 costumers there at any given time seems a bit excessive to me. The lady serving us seemed to display a mix of being familiar with the place & being seemingly there for the first time ever so maybe she had been working there only recently. Still even by the slower Flemish standards, the service seemed very unhurried which was simply a bad mix with our disposition. Even when less pressed waiting that long for anything would unnerve me frankly.
