UPDATE: in September 2015 the brewery stopped selling beer to drink on site, due to excessive crowds (mostly). They are still open the same time on Saturdays and offer the same stellar range of beers for take-away. They also do the occasional special event, such as Zwanze Day, when they utilise their space for on-site drinking.
I have visited the brewery once with my friend. We walked ten minutes, through a driving rain, from Borough Market to get here and it was worth every step. As there are a limited number of outlets to buy Kernel beers, a visit to the source is a guaranteed way to get some. When we got there, the brewer’s apprentice gave us a tour of the facilities and spent a good 20 minutes talking with us about the beers, the brewery, Vermont, skiing and even some other stuff. The facility is tiny and there isn’t much to see, but anyone who has tried a Kernel beer will understand that in this case size doesn’t matter. During this visit we tried a Centennial Pale Ale that was debuting that day and bought four bottles to take home. In the same building as the brewery there is a cheese-maker and a meat vendor, each selling food of the highest quality. The Kernel is without a doubt one of the best breweries in London - and, indeed, England - so for any serious beer fan a visit is mandatoy.

Yeah, this place is completely legit. Industrial warehouse location in the underpass of a train trestle. Clean, cheap, good service, incredible beer. Obviously the hours suck, but they’re a production brewery and they’d kill themselves if they had to do public hours all week. Completely necessary if you’re in London on a Saturday morning, especially considering the proximity to BBN, Anspach & Hobday, and other breweries. Awesome.

Lovely beer but can’t really score it too highly as a place to drink - lots of people rammed into a fairly nondescript room, and couldn’t go outside on a sunny day.

This brewery undoubtably makes some great beers and they are very decently priced at the brewery too. However as a place to drink it is not even worth visiting in my opinion. We visited on a saturday morning, it was a great day outside yet you are not allowed to go outside with drinks so you are stuck in the one room which is packed with people, absolutely no effort made to make it look good or interesting it’s just an white empty railway arch. In addition they are not set up to handle the large amounts of people that visit so expect a huge que to the one toilet they have. Worth visiting just to say you have been, but really the experience isn’t exactly pleasant.

Nice brewery to visit during Saturdays afternoon. Beer is always fresh and very good! Friendly staff, next door there is charcuterie/cheese place that gives this place a big plus!

Great London brewery, nice atmosphere, solid selection of tap beers, fresh and delicious. Prices are fair. Usually busy. Need to visit again and take the tour.
