This was a very nice, friendly beer bar with a great selection. The ambiance was pretty standard. The place was pretty old, for craft beer standards. The crowd on a Tuesday was mostly middle-aged men and a crew of fixed-gear biker guys. The guy behind the bar was really pleasant and very talkative (which was fine for me because I came alone). The selection was good, mostly Californian (apparently they consider environmental impact in choosing the beers... even though they had Victory Pilsner as well). If and when I go back to LA, I am sure to stop here. Relatively good prices too.

I think this should be the 1st place one stops, while in Santa Monica. Itís more spacious than Fatherís Office, but, in my opinion doesnít have as good of a draught selection. Anyways, my co-worker and I were able to walk right up to the bar, and grab some seats. Bar service was great. They have a lot more seating in the back, which I didnít find out until I had to rock a piss, so if and when you go, if they have open seating, head to the back, if the front is full. I just had a salad to eat, which was good, but I canít comment on the food other than a salad. My co-worker said his wings were really good. Anyways, solid place, with a good vibe. Not the greatest draught selection, but itís certainly not bad in any light.

Visited for dinner around 6pm on Wednesday 16/04/14.
Library Alehouse is a small to medium L-shaped bar, the small part of the íLí being an enclosed outside patio (with heaters) to the rear.
We found a table for 2 no problems and the place was pretty packed with a good vibe, the turnover was fairly brisk and I didnít see anyone waiting for a table.
At the business end Library Alehouse carries a solid tap list (I didnít even get round to checking the bottle list there were that many new ticks for me on tap, breweries included Stone, Almanac, Mad River, Ladyface, El Segundo and many more.
Service here was excellent, very prompt and 100% accurate bearing in mind I was ordering flights of 4 beers (typically $10), think they were 4oz pours?
Food was good also, seared Ahi burger with sweet potato fries - excellent stuff.
Located 15/20 minutes walk from downtown or a few blocks from Venice beach, Library Alehouse is a solid venue and a must visit if in the area.

Very crowded. Very noisy.
Nice beer list. A lot of draft beers. Staff knows a lot about beers. Received several free tasters (maybe a little small but ok to decide if you order a large pint). Food was ok. Vegetarian options were a little limited.

Wow, what an introduction to Santa Monica from fellow ratebeerian DedicatedToFun. Ambiance was lively, crowded, no wait for an 8pm Saturday dinner. Outside patio. Hand written large chalk board tap list outside and inside. Selection was insane: 8 new Almanac beers including rare sours, Beachwood BBQ, Ladyface, Eagle Rock, BP Sculpin. Really a phenomenal selection. Staff was friendly, quick, and never mismatched our beers or food. Burgers and fries were insanely good. Hell burger was quite intense so be careful. Really one of the best beer bars Iíve ever been to. Shocking that Iíve never even heard of this place. Deserves a 5-star rating on this site. Maybe they revamped and upgraded recently.

I went there about 8 times during my three weeks in Venice Beach. Finally got friedly with the beer manager and got the chance to taste a couple bottle hidden in the cellar, food is very good lunch in diner. A bit small on the bar and a bit lost on the terrace.

Recently had some business in Santa Monica and had a free evening in the area. Searched for a great place to visit and from the reviews it was a toss up between this place and The Daily Pint. I wish I had time for both...but no disappointmant whatsover with The Library. I loved the decor and layout of the place. The people that worked there were great the night I went...a Monday no less. The beer selection was excellent. This is a gastropub with some really great food...so come hungry as well as thristy! Iíll catch the other place next time...but I highly recommend The Library Alehouse as a must stop when in the area.

Stopped in on a rainy November evening with my fam, and really enjoyed the cozy pub atmosphere, conviviality, and most of all the righteous selection. Service a total home run, not much more to say than that theyíre awesome. Killer selection of mostly Cali craft, but that struck me as just fine. Tried some great hoppy stuff that was new to me, and enjoyed a generous snifter of the Stone Mint Choc stout. Great place, and I actually preferred the atmosphere to FO even if the selection isnít quite on that level.
