92 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20
The best craft beer bar in the city.
10 taps rotating taps from all around the province. They also hold "IPA night" every wednesday with about half the taps dedicated to it. Imported beers are also available in bottles.
If you’re hungry you can bring your own food or order some for delivery.
I strongly suggest to check out their facebook for the opening hours / tap list. Also check if they’re holding a special music event that day as it will heavily influence your experience there since it is a small space and it can get quite noisy when its full during a show.
Music playing is mostly rock / metal.
Lastly, note the address before going and look for the green door because there is no outdoor sign :)!

04/03/2014. Nondescript entrance off the street with no markings aside from some beer/brewry stickers on the door, leading up a stairway to the bar upstairs. Visited shortly after opening, met the owner and another bartender, both very knowledgeable and passionate about beer, and very generous, letting us know about some special bottles in stock. Well curated selection of beers on draft from Quebec- visited again later in the evening and found several things had already changed, so excellent rotation of lines even within one day. Great atmosphere, gritty, cool metal music in the background. Good experience all around, definitely worth the visit if you’re in Quebec.

Toujours un bon service et d’excellent choix de bières. Pour les gens qui veulent découvrir de nouvelles bières, leur ligne rotative est intéressante.

Visited February 4, 2014 in the evening, returned two days later. Like JulienHuxley has mention (the first rater of this place), it’s not well indicated, other than its civic number. This is not you polishes look, dark stairway, dark bar with a corsair and heavy metal music theme. Despite appearances, it’s the most welcoming bar that I visited. The music was not too loud, there was hockey on screen but no sound, people were here to be socialized and not drunk. And the two guys behind the bar are very friendly and knowledgeable about beer. 8 Quebec beers on rotating taps, two cask, close to 50 bottles local and imported, some of the are private. All solid selections. The best part other the the selection is the price, far better than Pub St-Alexandre in Old Quebec and no tourist!

Petit. Déco du genre.. absente! ;) Mais un endroit unique, on dirait pratiquement un bar clandestin. Belle sélection de bières de microbrasseries, en rotation. Dommage que le service soit juste OK.

Service vraiment moyen. Quelques bières intéressantes, mais l’intérêt s’arrête là

A nice place, though perhaps a bit over-rated. There really are only 8 taps. Gritty atmosphere, which is interesting. Friendly service. Hard to find because there is no sign. Look for the address. It’s in the building with the vines on the side.

A great example of "it’s not quantity but quality that counts". Falling Rock is great, 99 handles. But 8 or so handles can be great also. Lucked into finding this place. Had a great evening hanging out with the locals and drinking the best Quebecan beers.

Just returned from a couple of days in Quebec City and sought out this place based on the RateBeer reviews. After a great walk down Rue St-Jean on a beautiful evening my friends and I entered the Bateau about 6PM on a Wednesday to find most of the bar stools already taken (good sign in my mind). My friends took a table by the window while I checked out the tap list. Very impressive...8 taps and one cask of local Quebec craftbeers. We chose small pours so we could try more of them. After selecting a cascade hop ale for myself and the 3 Musketeers wheat for my friends we settled into the vibe of this cool but funky pirate bar on a second floor. Moments later the owner Sabastian came over and introduced himself. From that conversation we were able to get the full history of the bar as well as recommendations for the evening’s beers. It turns out there was a cask night the previous evening and a very special colaborative (made by two breweries) hoppy IPA was available but going fast...so we all jumped on it. I don’t know the name...but it was fantastic and we surely would have missed it had Sabastian not clued us in. We were also fortunate that a special guest was present...we were told she was the lead on Quebec’s only regular beer show. All in all the evening...the beers...and the bar were quite extraordinary. This is not only a must stop while in Quebec City...but I would go so far as to say it is a destination to plan a special trip around. Keep doing what you’re doing Sabastian...this place is a winner!
