Pretty standard BBQ joint in ambiance. Stained wood, a long bar with plenty of bourbon displayed. The tap list was pretty solid, though very expensive. Local beers werenít in abundance on the menu. Tilquin gueuze was available on draft for a pretty eye-watering price, so I scrolled past. The foodís pretty mediocre, I would eat elsewhere. Overall, maybe worth a look if youíre in the area. Frankly, the prices are so high in DC that you might as well just go to Churchkey.

Nice two floor bar with mostly barbecue style food items. Good sized bar on the main floor with 24 taps and a decent amount of dining tables. Bottle menu looked pretty decent. Bottom floor (Bottom of the Barrel) is smaller than upstairs and only has 12 of the 24 taps, I suppose you could ask the downstairs bartender nicely for one of the drafts upstairs if itís not too busy. Food is pretty good though Iím not big on their ribs. Prices seem about average and they have a few draft specials for happy hour.

I somehow had never made it to Smoke and Barrel until this past weekend. This is a long, but narrow place, with a main floor and a basement located on the outskirts of douche-filled Adams Morgan - where thereís at least three original/real/THE Jumbo Slice locations.
Draft list and bottle list were pretty good. Lots of solid things, with a number of hard-to-find local brews from the region that were a nice find. Big bottles were a bit pricy, but drafts and single-serving bottles were priced fine.
Food was quite tasty. Plenty of Bourbon and whiskey choices there too.

Located in the multicultural and relaxed Adams Morgan part of Washington, the Smike and Barrel, this easygoing pub offers a good atmosphere and a nice selection 12 taps (many of them local) and 40 bottles. The staff are relaxed and friendly and are willing to offer flights at a popular price. A nice place. Havenít tried the food b it looks like regular American fast food served in pubs.

Came in on the back of the DC Beer Week. Lost of bretts, gueuzes, krieks and even goses on tap. Has To be your thing, but awesome selection on draught. They have about 24 taps.
Couple dozens of bottles and cans as well. Cool wooden vibe, classic rock playing and BBQ in the menu. Relaxt urban crowd.
Had some good advice one night, not so much the other. In fact, when I appeared not as violently chipper as the American clientele (was fighting of my jet lag) I was served the cheque without warning. When I contested this rude manoeuvre I was threatened with police. Some American hospitality for you. Rest was nice, but this rained a lot on the parade.

I enjoyed this place. Certainly doesnt have the taplist of Churchkey, but what they have is carefully selected and high quality. Taster prices for everything right on the menu, which is nice. They also run a nightly food special that is unbeatable in price ($5 for three tacos and a side when I was there). Typical bar ambiance, but good service and a good time.

relaxed vibe. lotta wood. NES in basement, as well as some other games. tight beer selection- bunch of quality beers i hadnít had before. I like the "guess the mystery beer" game. the bartender pours a sample of some beer off the menu. guess the beer, get a free draft of it. neat idea. every beer on the menu available in 4 oz taster size. nice place.

This is my new go-to in the District. Consistently excellent draft list that makes it tough to choose. They usually have at least 1 sour draft and and a good mix of hoppy offerings and fruity/malty/spicy offerings. Itís a chill, dim-lit wooden bar with a helpful, knowledgeable bar-staff. The food is more than a few steps beyond your average pub grub. The vegetarian options are creative, savory and not at all a slap in the face like many other sorry excuses for a vegetarian menu. If youíre looking for a party bar, this is not the spot. Itís quite, almost dead on weekend nights. As an after work spot, I enjoy few places as much as this. Top-notch. Oh yea, and thereís Ski-ball downstairs, which they call "Asylum." Quality over quantity. Iíd go here over the adjacent Black Squirrel any day.
