Sports bar meets cocktail lounge. The Yardhouse is near Fenway and it’s similar to the Beer Works in a way but had much more atmosphere when we visited. Despite it being a sports bar with the usual television screens, it actually felt quite cosy as the tables at the front were candlelit and there are some nice murals. There’s a large bar with a stainless steel back and lots of taps, and a cafeteria style kitchen down one side. (Visited 28 October 2012).

Stopped in before and after a sox game. Got tables out on patio and food. Big selection. Nothing super exciting but a few ticks to be had. Food was fine enough pub grub. Sports bar but a decent one. Packed as to be expected on Saturday night game night.

Solid option as there’s plenty of choice with 100+ taps. Of course, more doesn’t always mean better, and there are spectacular fillers however I was happy to find Wormtown Be Hoppy pouring which was tasting good. The bartender was polite and gave excellent service during my stay. Happy hour was not a bad deal on food and grabbed some fried chicken strips off the menu that hit the spot. It was busy at the bar and I was surprised how many folks were actually ordering beer (yes, PBR) in an actual yard and drinking it so casually. One way to live up to the name of the bar I suppose. I found it hilarious to watch, I would never even consider drinking out of one of those things, unless I was 18 years old again!

I personally find the sport screen culture a bit challenging at times. too many screens, too much noise and competing interests for me. The beer menu is overwhelming and I was sceptical, but, it was good and service was pretty good too. The food is good but not excellent. I can think of places I would rather go but this is a good back stop. Gets busy and I got carded on the door which as a bloke in his late 40’s was just a touch patronising.

It’s a Yard House. Lots of pretty good beers, never anything exciting or rare. Being right by Fenway, it’s a bit of a loud, crowded, young, drunk crowd. Definitely catering to the Fenway party scene over the craft beer drinker. I didn’t eat but food looks exactly what you’d expect from such a chain.

When I visited: Mid-September 2013. What I had: Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen, Stone 17th Anniversary Götterdämmerung IPA, Mayflower Porter, and Harpoon Rich & Dan’s Rye IPA on tap, Ginger-crusted Norwegian Salmon, Chicken Tortilla Soup and some white wines for the Mrs. What I liked: Lively atmosphere before the Red Sox game, ridiculously huge draught list with excellent style variation, quick service at the bar, we enjoyed our cozy, intimate booth for dinner after the game, very good food, proper glassware, three different serving sizes for beer, convenient location. What I disliked: Our waitress screwed up our orders so it took almost 45 minutes to get our food, but the manager comped everything so we left happy campers. Would I go back? Definitely. Aside from the one service issue (which was rectified), we had a great time here. Overall Rating: 82

This place is your best bet for craft beer in the Fens. Huge taplist that wasn’t crazy expensive and the food is alright too. I know it is a chain, so if you aren’t into that, avoid this place. But I quite enjoyed it.

This place is huge. This beer bar has a fancy feel to it. I drank an 80 Acre which wasn’t so fresh. With over 100 taps this is probably quite usual. I then got smart and ordered a RuinTen from the rotating tap list which only has 5 offerings. Prices are a little higher than other places I visited in Boston. Service was efficient. There aren’t a plethora of world-class beer focused establishments in this city, so The Yard House has to be considered as a stop.

The Yard House is located around the corner from Fenway Park and Lansdowne. It is very dark with a very large oval bar in the middle rear, tables iscattered in the front, and booths around the wall. Lots of TVs around and a lcd list of Tap and Bottle specials. Service is adequate (bartender did not know specials (and offered beers that had been unavailable for a while according to another server)), mistakes were also made by our server who brought the wrong beer for one of us. They have 135 standard and 5 "specialty" taps. Selection is very good with all quality ranges. Specials only had one "rarity", but it was tasty. Food was good - plenty of vegetarian options and the sweet potato fries were excellent. It is a little pricey for what you get - beers were about a dollar or two more than expected and food was about five dollars more...Overall this is a nice addition to the area for the beer lover, and one that I will re-visit when in the area, but not worth a special trip.

It may be a chain, but the atmosphere and beer selection are great. All of the waiters truly know their beer, and love to help you out.
