Hi all, I’m not sure if this is the best place to post this but I feel like it is definitely an issue that needs to be raised and shared amongst as many people as possible. This is an email I sent to the management at "Jerntorgets Brygghus" (a restaurant/bar we had an experience with last night). I highly recommend NOT supporting this establishment. I will also be posting this on the University of Gothenburg website. To whom it may concern, Last night (Friday evening) a group of 6 individuals were declined entranced into your restaurant on the pretence that one of the people in our party had "caused trouble" in the restaurant before. The accusation was that this man had been to your restaurant for many weekends in a row and had been inappropriate towards a bartender. The man in our party has been in Gothenburg for less than two weeks and has never been to your restaurant before. When we explained this to the bouncer he refused to engage in any conversation with us. The man in our party is from Africa and got the distinct impression that he was declined entrance due to his race. When two other people in our party spoke to your bartender she made the ignorant statement that this man looked and acted the same way so it must be the same person. She was unwilling to admit her obvious mistake and to apologize. We walked away feeling disgraced by what appeared to be blatant racism and xenophobia on the part of your establishment. We wanted to give you the opportunity to acknowledge the mistake made and apologize to our colleague. We, and many others we know through the University of Gothenburg, will not be coming back to your restaurant but we still feel it is your responsibility and the right of our colleague to receive an apology. Thank you in advance and I hope that you are able to educate your staff in the concepts of racism, discrimination and acceptance. Sincerely, Lindsay Sellinger

Despite its name, this is not a brewpub but a beer bar with the "house beer" IPA-Nema brewed at the nearby Stigbergets Bryggeri. The bar opened three years ago, summer 2012, and is kept in an open, modern style with white washed concrete walls, ceramic tiles and wooden paneling along the bar and on the lower parts of the walls. Large windows towards Järntorget and the side street lets in the daylight so the room felt clean and well lit. A sign said the pub can take 200 guests, in addition there’s also a pub in the cellar, which opens when the main pub gets crowded. I counted 22 taps, many of them Wisby but also some interesting local beers such as Stigbergets and All in Brewing. The sign outside claimed 250 bottled varieties. Atmosphere at daytime was quiet, so I enjoyed a few beers and a good conversation. The pub also serves hot food but I did not try any. Visited: 2015-05-01.

Big, popular bar right on the square. Well lit, airy, lots of windows. This is by no means a hipster bar, unless you consider anyone under 30 to be a hipster. This is a mainstream, if upscale-ish, young persons bar. A hipster bar would have better beer! They only have 4 guest taps, only 1 or 2 of which would be on interest to someone familiar with the Swedish beer scene. Granted, that’s better than 99% of bars in Sweden, but considering the other choices in the neighborhood, it’s not really a beer destination. It’s a great place to meet up with friends or large groups. They laso lose points for having Brygghus in their name but not actually brewing anything.

Decent enough bar in an old building with a reasonable choice of micro brewery beers including 4 from Gotland one if which was a stout.

A pub I wouldn’t normally go to considering the ambience and semi-hipster clientel but they usually have some interesting local guest taps and a varied bottle collection at very fair prices so a visit is still recommended every now and then.

Staff (both bar and security) has been reported as disrespectful against LGBT-people. Will not visit again!

Visited at 3.15 pm on Friday 21/03/14, within a few minutes walk of the Rover, Olstugan Tullen 1892 and Bishops Arms Jarntorgets. This venue, up a small staircase from street level, is medium sized open plan, big wooden benches and stools and lower level seating with tiled floors throughout. Check out the ornate glass pannelled ceiling! Pretty quiet during our visit but I get the hipster vibe other people allude to. Service was good, the guy chatted to me for a minute or two and the line up here was more overseas stuff from the like of Mikkeller and Evil Twin but I aso picked up a few SWE ticks from Beerbliotek, Eskilstuna and others. Approx 25 taps and around 100 bottles made for a decent enough selection. Decent enough bar, I wouldn’t say this is an essential stop but works well in a crawl of the area if you have the time.

Decent selection of taps and bottles. Modern interior. It’s large, so wont get crowded. Rather relaxing place to have a beer and not have to worry about fighting your way through the crowds around the bar.
