I stopped down here while visiting friends in Chicago. I was looking for Chicago beers we canít get in Wisconsin and I found a good selection of Pipeworkís, Revolution and Spiteful beers among others I was not looking for. I thought the service was really good but I did buy a shit load of bombers to bring back to Madison so of course the clerk was happy. Was convenience store type of liquor store but Who cares if they have what you want?

Basic liquor store. The only reason to stop here is for Pipeworks releases. Sometimes they have tasting but havent been to any. Decent selection and chicago prices but dont expect any help.

The selection is the only reason to shop here. Youíll find beer here in stock that you wonít find elsewhere. Of course, expect to pay at least a $1-2 premium over other stores. Also, the service is strange. When I arrived, there was nobody in the store. It felt strange, so I just went and started browsing their huge selection. They had racks of just-released beers sitting there. Finally, a gentleman walked into the cashiers area from an office, yet still said nothing to me. He knew his stuff, but was completely reactionary. I am not planning to return here. If I must have a specific beer and this is the only place, then that may be the only thing that motivates me. The outside of the store is dumpy-looking, and the inside is decorated only in beer.

More a convenience store that sells beer. A couple of decent things but slightly overpriced. Most of the good stuff isnít out and you will only get if you know them. Not really a spot anyone needs to head to.

I found this place on a google search in the zip code of a bbq joint I was going to and since Iím from the Southside and was making the trip I thought Iíd stop by. The boast of 500 different beers seemed accurate and since I have a life I will take them at their word rather than count. The gentleman working the counter asked me 3 times if he could help me so Iíll say thatís top notch service. I bought a nice selection of beer which I have thoroughly enjoyed and when I find myself back in that neighborhood I will definitely return. The store looks like an abandoned White Hen from the outside, but donít be scared, there is treasure inside!

I agree with emerge077, they have shady practices. They are very misleading with their Beer Menus updates, listing beers they do not have. This is disappointing since they have a good selection of beer.

All you have to do is look past the surface to notice the shady tactics employed here... bribing customers for online reviews, selling at triple MSRP, bootlegging, posting bait & switch prices on beermenus, etc. Now that Beer Temple has opened on Elston, I donít have a reason to come here anymore. Fresh beer at fair prices is all I ask... Outdated beer with jacked up prices, no thanks. ***2012*** After shopping here for about a year now ive noticed a few things, that maybe you wouldnít notice at first glance. Many beers are $2-5 more than what youíd find elsewhere. Zombie Dust purchased here twice ($14.99, not $13 as listed on beermenus) has been faded both times... that should never happen. Caveat emptor. They update beermenus at least twice a day so theyre always at the top of the "recently updated" list, which is frankly annoying (never thought id say that about a place on beermenus). More egregiously though, items listed (and updated same day) may or may not be in stock, or are a different price than listed online... shady. Stuff isnt always on the shelf and sometimes you have to ask, or they flat out dont have what they list on beermenus. They have cleaned it up a bit inside, and added lots more beers in the front of the store. There is a great selection and new releases, just be sure to ask prices and check dates on hoppy beers. High prices keep me from stopping in more frequently.

If youíve been here 100 times or its your first youíll get treated the same. Freddy was very knowledgable with all beer and even threw in some free swag. Selection was great especially all of the local Chicago brews that fresh as could be.

This is what youíre looking for in a beer destination store. No ambience, just walls of beer. Encyclopedic American craft selection, the greatest hits in the imports alongside some rare gems (if I ever find some Vicaris or Thornbridge, itís a 15 for selection), reasonable prices -- but what puts it over the top is Freddy. Heís a Chicago icon, in my book. If you ever wanted to "know a guy", and youíre into beer, this is your store. Freddy knows the local players, he gets whatever he wants from his distributors, he gives local beer star billing, he responds to facebook messages and phone calls, he knows what you want before you ask for it, heís happy. Heís a force of nature. Dealing with Freddy reminds me of Hot Doug down the street: Once he knows you, the prices are just a guide, and if you pay in cash...well, he appreciates it. He won me over. Anything is possible here.
