Nice place, trendy people, relaxed atmosphere but crazy prices. Drinks are far overprized. Iíd rather go to Cloisters which is up Lothian road.

My favourite bar in Edinburgh, thanks to the amazing range of beers available. Six cask ales and 14 keg lines, plus around 100 bottles. The Alpha Project beers brewed on site are of a very high standard. Food is pretty good, but can sometimes be very spicy. Prices are quite high, but the beers on offer are premium so Iím willing to pay a bit more than usual.

Top bar in Edinburgh currently. 20 taps, large bottle selection too. Frequent meet the brewer events. Incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Can be too busy at times (usually Friday) but seating is mostly available. Marked down for food and value slightly as prices have continued to slowly rise for food which hasnít changed.

Visited on Friday evening. Wasnít so crowded but weíve find seats only in front of the bar. Well that was perfect as we wanted to drink a lot so didnít need to walk too much. So about 6 casks and 14 kegs, lots of bottles. Great staff, frendly, informative. Beer on tap are interesting, mostly locals, prices are good. They have their own 50L tanks to brew their own beer, but unfortunately it wasnít available that time. Pub design is great, very modern. Probably the best place in Edinburgh.

Great place. Very good selection. Sadly not many of their beers on, but maybe this was because it was just after new year. Beer flights available and really good value. Nice mix of interesting domestic stuff and interesting imports, and of keg and cask. Best place we went to in Scotland. Spacious but busy. Friendly staff. Want to go back and spend a long time there.

I was incredibly impressed with the Hanging Bat. I was able to sample beer from breweries that I had never heard of, and beer styles outside the usual run of the mill. I am 65 years old, and I was made extremely comfortable by the entire staff, especially the manager, Kieran, as well any of the younger patrons that I interacted with. After spending a month on business in the UK and Ireland, and a two week vacation in Scotland, the Hanging Bat was easily the best and most convivial drinking establishment that I enjoyed on the entire trip. Very highly recommended!

Pretty much the place to go in Edinburgh. 20 taps, no swill. Staff are knowledgeable and helpful, service is spot on. Food is decent. Beer list is ever changing, mostly UK breweries. Comfy seating but it does get busy at peak times. Great bar.

Well ive given this place time to settle to get a better feel for it. So here goes. The hanging bat has a lot to recomend it, 14 Keg lines and 6 Cask lines as well as a considerable bottle selection. But its not not all about the numbers its the care taken in the selection. With the likes of Kernel, magic Rock and Harbour, on regularly as part of the rotating guest list, and the likes of Hawkshead , Moor and Luckie forming part of there Permanent theres a Garentee of Interesting beers and Its not uncommon to find 4-5 beers above 6% on at any one time. But this place has more to offer than just beer. The layout and Decor make this a very comfortable bar, some where you can easily pop into for a 10 minute quicky or spend several hour being slowly seduced by its delights. Food is well done and well priced, offering filling and snacky alternatives. With Regular meet the brewer events its possible to see 10-20 brews from one of the more intersting UK breweries on at the same time. But for me the one thing that puts the Icing on the Cake is that it Allows Children. While Edinburgh has many great pubs sadly too many of them are not child friendly, so to find a Bar this good that we can go out as a family to is a delight.
SO were into a new Year and this place is going strong, its amazing the beer you can find in here on a Random monday night like last night. Which Just makes it such a great place to have a drink on the way home, but its also nice to sit on a quietish weekend afternoon playing a game with the kids while having a couple of beers, but the Thing that really lift this place to Truely stunning is the Beer events about once a month a brewer will appear and the Bar will showcase their beer, often taking up all 20(21) lines

Terrific selection of beers but the bar itself and the prices left me cold. May be a generational thing - Iím 50 and on a Friday night my mate and I raised the average age in there by a decade. The place was crowded with bright young hipsters. Nothing against that but the vibe was jarring after a string of fine old Edinburgh bars. I also had huge expectations and therefore plenty of room for disappointment. The beer line-up was very impressive and I had no complaints about the condition of the couple I tried. The bar itself seemed oddly designed, with limited seating for the volume in there. Plenty of chrome. Prices seemed at the upper end of the scale for festival serves, especially for some of the NZ/Oz imports.
