2016-05-21. Interesting industrial garage type space with a mishmash of couches and tables "inside", open to outdoors with plastic flaps on the patio down on this rainy day. Cool murals on the wall, and back and white Mickey Mouse cartoons on the projector. The cartoons occasionally synchronuze with the bar music in entertaining ways. Food was pretty good - Fish goujons are ever so slightly underdone for my preference but tasty. Pulled pork sliders are very nice. The bartender was not particularly chatty/forthcoming with us when I asked him questions about the beers, but chatted with the folks sitting at the bar. Maybe I didnít engage him enough, who knows. 8 or 9 hand pulls and similar number of taps - has a wide range, but not all of which are great. Solid bottle selection as well. There is quite a bit I like about it but I still end up feeling like Iíd prioritize other places (e.g Pomeroyís, Twisted Hop) in town over here. Recommended, but there is just something small about the overall impression that doesnít quite grab my attention.
Was in Christchurch for a conference, and went to this place three times with my labmates. Great food (a labmate had the best Quesadillas heíd ever had) from the pop-up stand outside, great prices, and the best selection of craft beer I saw anywhere around. If youíre in Christchurch, itís well worth the visit!
A great newcomer to the Christchurch beer scene. A selection of NZ breweries feature on tap with a good introduction to a few local Chch brewers. On a nice day itís pleasant to sit outside enjoying a brew (make sure to bring a few friends along as thereís not much by way of scenery to look at here). I can imagine it gets a little "too cool for school" vibe happening here observing a few of the punters but regardless itís well worth stopping by and seeing whatís on.
My favourite spot in Christchurch for a catch up with friends in a great relaxed retro atmosphere over some excellent beers from around New Zealand and the world. One of remarkably few bars where you can enjoy the beer, atmosphere and conversation rather than TVs blaring. Could use some more food options, some more non-Moa keg beers (hopefully coming soon with the Golden Eagle/Raindogs brewery opening next door) and at the rate theyíre going, a bit more space and some bike racks, but theyíre still the best place in chch for a great beer with friendly and knowledgeable bar staff and an eclectic mix of suits, ties, jandals and jeans.
OK, would you like the good news first or the bad news. Well, hereís the bad news: this place is temporarily closed for renovation after a fire. Hopefully it was minor, as I did not see any damage from the outside. Now for the good news: the brewery next door is producing, or at least has recently produced, beer. If I find out more, Iíll post it here. For now, this is a placeholder generic rating, halfway between the two existing ratings, so as not to change the average. This is one of the many reasons I must return to CHCH.
my regular. wonderful people, laid back atmosphere, and i suppose most importantly a large range of both taps (5 handpulls, 6 normal) and bottles. not all that expensive for craft beer in christchurch either, though thatís not saying much. not much in the way of food, which is clearly an unimportant factor to the owners. the golden eagle and raindogs joint brewery is almost finished next door as well. all in all a fantastic place to waste a few hours in.
