I skipped the brewery tour and instead hit up the beer hall to sample the wares. The punters at the bar next to me and others were declaring the tour as a success and one of the better in the business so it may be worthwhile to do it if itís your thing. As for the beers, I went with the seasonal flight of four and in all honesty I struggled to drink any of them. They tasted under attenuated mess. Damn pricey too! Staff were OK but again it was all just a weird touristy vibe happening here. I was happy/disgruntled to pay for my barely touched flight and move on.

Came here on a Thursday afternoon. Became a bit crowded after 2:30. Servers are friendly and knowledgeable. Wish they had descriptions of their beers to hand out. Food is pretzels only but with various dips and taste options. They were good. Beer is a bit on a pricy side but decent. Good selection

The tour was full so I sat in the brew house for a few rounds. This is onw of the largest selections I have seen at a brewery anywhere.giant pretzels in a variety of flavors for food. Not enough wait staff which means a long wait for a beer but they were friendly enough. Lots of beer and merchandise for sale. One complaint is for the unreasonable prices, almost $15 for two beers which is ridiculous when drinking at the brewery. Other than that, this is a good place even if a long walk from downtown.

A large, sterile-feeling brewery tasting cavern. You can get pre-set tasting flights, which is OK. But other than that you canít buy anything smaller than a pint, which was weird and annoying. Prices are perhaps a little on the high side for a brewery tasting room. Another beef I have with this place is that their growler filling system sucks. They fill gallon growlers with the screw-on tops; but the cap doesnít screw on tightly and my beer was foaming out for the next few hours. When I cracked the beer less than 24 hours later it was almost entirely flat. Pretty poor from such a large brewery who should really know what to do with a growler. An OK place to go if you want a few one-off Harpoon ticks but other than that thereís not much attraction to this place.

When I visited: Mid-September 2013. What I had: Harpoon UFO Pumpkin and IPA for me; UFO Hefeweizen for my partner. What I liked: Fun, no frills beer hall atmosphere, mixed crowd minds their own, expansive retail store, respectable range of styles on offer, cask available, fair prices. What I disliked: Took a while to get the attention of the bartender; they brew good, balanced beers that are on target for the style, but none of the beers are particularly unique or outstanding in quality. Would I go back? Sure. This place is worth hitting before a Red Sox game (they offer a shuttle service to Fenway Park) or to snag a couple drinks before lunch or dinner at Yankee Lobster (next door). Overall Rating: 76

Cool looking place with a very large tasting room and nice views of the water and city. Donít doubt there are great workers there, but our service was horrible. Server didnít know anything about the beers on tap and only told us about half of what was actually available for order. Took the tour and the two young tour hosts were the worst Iíve ever seen. They were so bad, we turned around and left the tour while it was in progress because we couldnít stand their lack of beer knowledge and horrible jokes any longer. Those two guys alone make me never want to come back. Plenty of house beers to try with plenty of brewery exclusives on tap. Food offerings is limited to just jumbo pretzels, but they were good. Place has a lot of potential, guess itís just a matter of the people you interface with when you go.
