A large, sterile-feeling brewery tasting cavern. You can get pre-set tasting flights, which is OK. But other than that you canít buy anything smaller than a pint, which was weird and annoying. Prices are perhaps a little on the high side for a brewery tasting room. Another beef I have with this place is that their growler filling system sucks. They fill gallon growlers with the screw-on tops; but the cap doesnít screw on tightly and my beer was foaming out for the next few hours. When I cracked the beer less than 24 hours later it was almost entirely flat. Pretty poor from such a large brewery who should really know what to do with a growler. An OK place to go if you want a few one-off Harpoon ticks but other than that thereís not much attraction to this place.

When I visited: Mid-September 2013.
What I had: Harpoon UFO Pumpkin and IPA for me; UFO Hefeweizen for my partner.
What I liked: Fun, no frills beer hall atmosphere, mixed crowd minds their own, expansive retail store, respectable range of styles on offer, cask available, fair prices.
What I disliked: Took a while to get the attention of the bartender; they brew good, balanced beers that are on target for the style, but none of the beers are particularly unique or outstanding in quality.
Would I go back? Sure. This place is worth hitting before a Red Sox game (they offer a shuttle service to Fenway Park) or to snag a couple drinks before lunch or dinner at Yankee Lobster (next door).

Cool looking place with a very large tasting room and nice views of the water and city. Donít doubt there are great workers there, but our service was horrible. Server didnít know anything about the beers on tap and only told us about half of what was actually available for order. Took the tour and the two young tour hosts were the worst Iíve ever seen. They were so bad, we turned around and left the tour while it was in progress because we couldnít stand their lack of beer knowledge and horrible jokes any longer. Those two guys alone make me never want to come back. Plenty of house beers to try with plenty of brewery exclusives on tap. Food offerings is limited to just jumbo pretzels, but they were good. Place has a lot of potential, guess itís just a matter of the people you interface with when you go.

This place has one of the nicest tap rooms of any brewery Iíve been to. I was there on a Friday night at 7:00 and there was plenty of seating. One side of the room looks into a huge portion of their brewery and the other side is giant windows facing downtown Boston. The tap selection is pretty decent and features a wide range of their beers. They offer pretty good pretzels with a choice of 5 dipping sauces, but no other food.

Harpoon has a tap room overlooking the brewery with free tastings held there on weekdays at 2pm and 4pm. They also do tours and tastings at the weekend.
The brewery is on an industrial estate by the docks. Itís a bit of a trek but, if you donít want to walk, the silver line bus (route SL2) stops right outside.
The entrance to the tasting room was tucked away around the side but I gather that the new beer hall and visitor centre has been opened since my visit, so that may all have changed.
I enjoyed the tasting. We were offered several glasses of various beers, with an informative talk before each serving. I learnt a few new things too; for example, that coriander is a main ingredient in Coca Cola and that Harpoon have their own proprietary Vermont yeast which is kept in a bunker in Colorado.

Iíve been to the location in Windsor, VT multiple times so I expected the same. But this was just a brewery with a tasting room. Very nice set up. Great selection of brews to sample. People working here are great and friendly. Very packed on a Saturday but nice to see so much interest in a great brewerey.

Jam packed for the 2PM tasting on a Monday. Donít these people have jobs? You listen to a short spiel about the beers and the brewery, and then you slam as many free beers as you want - and a lot if people were doing 4 ounce pours like they were shots. They do have their original ale, only served at the brewery, and one pilot batch, in this case an imperial stout. Worth the short and easy trip from downtown.

Visited on a Friday afternoon for the free tasting and mini tour. A great time had by all. Some 13 taps were available on the day I was there, including some from the Leviathan and 100 Barrel series. Get a few ounces of each, then get back in line for the next one. Cozy sports shop room where you can buy Harpoon logoíd clothes and items, as well as some bottles or fill a growler. Pretty nice brewery experience, these guys are very generous and work very hard. Happy to have visited and I wouldnít miss it if I were passing through Boston.
