This is undeniably the best place in the world for drinking beer. What’s really cool is that every time I go here there are like at least 10 other RateBeerians, all keen to put their drinking helmets on and get down to business. While the opening times here can be a bit random, overall the service is without peer; the staff will stay up as late as their patrons like, offering a never-ending supply of beers and snacks, such as frozen pizzas. They also offer long-term lodging for the protracted drinking sessions, and short-term lodging (a couch), which I have used at least once for the mid-tasting power nap. And don’t even get me started on the ChrisO cellar! On my last visit to ChrisO’s (yesterday) the barman let us ransack the cellar; we pulled out all kinds of aged lager and bitter. Great place for country ticks, on my last visit I notched Andorra, Barbados, Lichtenstein and more! But the highlight of ChrisO’s has to be the diversity of clientiele that frequent this beer mecca. I once saw a fullgrown Fin drink a half pint of vodka AFTER a tasting. Another time (yesterday) a fifty-something Brit chugged a bottle of De Dolle Stille Nacht 2008.

A Mecca for Beer and Company in London, You do not get better than this. On arrival you are shown into the grand tasting room. Finding a space at the hallowed table, Beers will magically appear in front of one. Then as if by Magic Pizza or Bread and cheese. Some of you may have been here before, But its greatly improved from the days of the roof falling on ones head.

Kind of smelled like crotch, but in a good way. The fish beer was the best, tasted like real scales.

THE place to go for perfectly cellared vintage bitters and golden ales. It’s probably the only bar in Europe that also doubles as a weight room. My only gripe with ChrisO’s is the clientele. The place is usually filled with the types of scoundrels, thieves, and harlots that I thought only existed in Robert Louis Stevenson novels. The ’pants optional’ rule at the bar also takes some getting used to. You’ve been warned.

I hate to be the turd in the punch bowl, but this place totally sucked. My wife and I had heard good things from other ratebeerians, but we were not at all pleased with our experience. The place was dank and dark and far too chilly for us to relax. "I asked the barkeep about the chill and he replied with "It’s f*ck*ng winter. It’s England. What did you expect, you pansie-ass nancy-boy. I’m not turning on the heat for you. Peddle your happy ass back to Florida if you don’t like it." Ummm... totally not cool. At least the price was right, because we showed up during their "Drinkin’ with Lincoln" happy hour. $5.00 apiece to chug as many Natural Lights as we wanted. There was no food and only the one tap, so we froze our asses off while chugging Natty Lite for at least 5 hours and only spent $10.00 the entire time. The place really could use some type of menu and a few more light bulbs. I needed to take a piss, but refused to go into a bathroom with 3" of standing water on the floor. I probably would have contracted Malaria. So, I just stood at the door and pissed on the floor as apparently countless others had already done. I heard there was a very nice beer cellar with thousands upon thousands of rare ales and lagers, but the barkeep wouldn’t allow us entry. He said it was "colder down there than up top" and that my "pansie American ass probably couldn’t handle it. Go back to the colonies," he said. We’ll never be visiting this establishment again, but then, it doesn’t really matter because we’re never going back to England either. Freaking bunch of Limeys drinking freaking tea and Natty Light in the freaking cold-ass rain. And why was a crappy English pub having a "Drinkin’ with Lincoln" promotion anyway?

Chriso’s wife and I met on OKCupid in the swingers subforum and she invited me over for a "beer tasting." But lo and behold, it was an actual beer tasting with Chriso busting out special one-off lambic for my mother and I who were travelling around England. Was able to try Cantillon Framboise Noire (black raspberry) for the first time, Drie Fonteinen Akkurat 20/80 blend Oude Geuze Vintage 1956, and even Strubbe Celery Beer. Incredible experience.
