The beer landscape has changed in Hobart over the last few years. A number of places have started popping up, moving away from your traditional tap of heavy /tap of light to a fantastic selection of local, national and international craft beers.
Kris who took over The Winston over twelve months ago has been one of the pioneers leading this charge to tasty beers.
Having spent some time in the US & has settled in Hobart and has brought his passion for beer and American style cuisine to match. I have eaten there a number of times and the food has always been great, pulled pork with housemade hickory bbq sauce roll, southern fried chicken burger & wings are all regulars.
There a 12 taps now with an ever changing tap list. The fridge selection, while small due to space constraints, is well thought out and has something for everyone. My wife will have a Blanche de Namur and Iíll have an Epic Hop Zombie.
The place has a great, friendly, welcoming vibe. If people are worried about the distance from the city. Jump in a taxi, will be the best $10.00 youíve spent!
While there have a boilermaker, a nice strong dark beer paired with a Tassy whiskey.

A fair bit of a walk from the city. Located on your right side if walking up from the central of Hobart.
8 taps of mainly Oz craft beers, good selection, found two I hadnít rated yet on my long beercation. Saw the bottle fridge, but didnít browse it.
No WiFi available. Didnít eat, but food menu looked nice.
A billiard table and a Sega pinball machine for entertainment. Some not too loud music from speakers. Seems/feels like a nice local pub, even though fairly far from the city.
Can walk up via Republic and get two places in one walk, if only time for one Iíd say select this one.
Met some nice friendly chatty locals that I could talk to. Nice friendly service, no problem using a credit card to pay for each drink. Well worth the walk up if you have some time, but perhaps not essential.
Just read on their facebook that they have 12 taps now, someone more local can confirm that and update if true.

This place took over Alley Cats for those familiar with the area. Just opened 2 days ago but Iím a big fan, despite being pretty far from the wharf area where most people stay. Drafts were rarish I assume they will get and stay better. Lots of Aussie ticks, + American beers and rarer Euro beers. Cool vibe, nice staff, who knows a bit about beer. Better vibe than the New Sydney but not as good beer yet. Worth checking out for sure.
