(Visited 04/2013): Finally made it to Hal & Alís during their 4th year anniversary celebration. The bar is located on Parsons on the south side. Street parking is available on the surrounding streets.
The exterior is painted bright blue and hard to miss. The interior opens directly to the bar, with high back tables and a checkerboard floor and stage beyond. There is a board next to the bar listing the beer highlights. .
There are around 20 beers on draught at Hal & Alís. I visited for a special Thirsty Dog release. They also feature brewers like Columbus Brewing, Widmer Brothers, Goose Island and Bells. As for bottles there are over 50 from domestic craft breweries like Bells, Kona, Mt. Carmel and Lagunitas. Several imports too.
Service on a weekday evening at the bar was good. The bartender was knowledgeable about their beers.
Hal & Alís serves a vegan menu. I am not a vegan, and reading the menu will make a person quickly realize that "vegan" does not necessarily mean "healthy". Still, my meal was good.
All in all Hal & Alís is a fun dive bar to visit near downtown.
