An above average LCBO with a decent selection and ok prices. Staff were sparse on the ground on a busy Friday night. Nothing that special but maybe the best place in Ottawa for Ontario craft beer bottles/cans plus a few imports you may not see in Quebec.

Best LCBO in town? Well its best I have been to. Solid line up , good selection and typical LCBO service, You might even forget you are not in Toronto.

Bon choix de bière, ontariennes, américaines et internationnales, avec des prix intéressants. Service inexistant. Disons que ça fait changement des SAQ du Québec

NOTE TO TOURISTS: Beer (and all alcohol) is not a free market in Ontario, There are no privately owned beer stores in this province. You can either buy beer directly from a brewery (when they have the facility to do so) or buy from the government store LCBO. To name more popular beer destinations I’d say Ontario is similar in many ways to Norway with their Vinmonopolets and Sweeden with their Systembolagets. Now, on to the place rating… I haven’t visited that many LCBOs but I often check the LBCO beer availability on the surprisingly always-up-to-date lcbo website. Some LCBOs gets better treatment when it comes to more limited beer availability and LCBO Rideau & King Edward is one of them. Some Toronto superior get good stuff that don’t make it to the northern part of the province but except for some of the best Toronto LCBOs I’d say this one is pretty much the best I know. The place has parking but you’ll often have to wait for someone to leave to get a spot.

Probably the best LCBO in Ottawa and they will bring pretty much anything that the LCBO has in for you if you ask. Staff have very little knowledge about the beer and you frequently have to have the item number before going to the store if you want them to order something or get something that is not up on a shelf. If you are visiting Ottawa from outside of the province I would recommend stopping here and Broue Haha across the river to get the best possible samples of things to buy to bring back with you.

Gouvernment ambiance. Staff is basically clueless, except for the odd guy that really knows its stuff. Their choice of imports is decent : however, some interesting ones only comes in 6-pack, which is useless as far as tasting is concerned. Also, they tend to be lacking some variety (e.gL why do they only have the Schlenkerla Marzen, and not the other ones? Why only ONE Dunkelweizen? Why no Kristall Weizen?). Still, pretty interesting place, and their seasonals are worth it. Access is a bit sketchy, BUT, there’s a free parking!

Flagship store for the LCBO in Ottawa. Great selection of beer, parking is actually pretty good considering it is downtown and it’s free! I always get a good selection when I visit.

Visited while I was in town for the 2009 OUA swimming championships. A very very nice LCBO, for anyone giving this a low rating you really must not know how well it compares to LCBO’s throughout the province. Awesome selection of almost every beer product the LCBO has, including some special Ottawa area stuff you can’t get most other places (like Beau’s). Includes an underground vintage wine section, which I’m sure would be much more impressive if I were interested in vintage wine, but it’s still a cool aspect. Nice lay out to the store, very large, my only issue was the crappy service. I’m used to decent service with the LCBO so it was just a surprise to me. 2 cash machines operating with well over 100 people in line, not a good set up. Other than that, very impressive store by LCBO standards.
