Great place in Gijon. Nice room and lots of different beers. Mostly internationals. Be sure to check with the owner, if he opens on time ;o)

We visited El Coleccionista on Wednesday 25th June 2014, crikey had to think then I’d forgotten the day and the date. I would be hard pressed to describe exactly where this was as we arrived in Gijon (actually camping Deva Gijon some 6-7 km away) at around 4pm so by the time we set up the camper and cycled in time was already getting on and much of Gijon appears to be set out in a US style grid system with overhead lights at most junctions. I am going to suggest that El Coleccionista is a short walk north of the centre in a nicer/older part of the town situated on the corner of Melquiades Alvarez and Calle Istituto, you enter via the former. The bar is ahead as you enter and there is a slightly lower area set out with tables to your right looking out onto the street. I didn’t see a written/paper beer list but there are blackboards displaying everything they have and it is fair to say that the choice was fairly extensive. We concentrated our attention on the Spanish micros and taking some advice from the helpful young barman plumped for a Dougall’s 942 Pale Ale, Caleya Asturies Pale Ale before sharing a Marina Devil’s IPA. The TV’s were showing football, I gazed up occasionally at the Bosnia v Iran game but after a while realised that the excited Spanish commentator who kept mentioning Messi and then goooooaaaaaalllllaaaaa wasn’t commentating on my game the TV behind me was showing Argentina v Nigeria it took me a while to get what was happening, I kept thinking this game and his commentary seems somewhat disjointed. Anyway back to the beer and the bar, it was fairly quiet when we were there with just one other person. The tables presumabely giving a clue to the name of the bar as each of them were glass covered with collections of items within such a film paraphenalia, brewerania, lego? etc. I noticed a smart store/bottle cellar downstairs. I really liked this place, a very, very good and wide ranging choice of beers and prices were great too, we paid €9.80 for our three beers with a small bocaddillo tapas also thrown in.

Probably widest selection in Gijon. About 220 bottles, mainly belgian and german classics, with some other craft european and american ones. Downstairs there´s a small bottle store, with cheaper prices to take away. Very good sevice and nice ambiance.

Bonito y espacioso local con cocina para picar algo. Más de doscientas referencias de cervezas en botella. Precios muy razonables (descuentos para llevar). Abre desde por la mañana (una rareza dentro de las cervecerias)
