Forge recently opened and is putting out some really nice brews. We visited on a cold December weekend and were the first patrons. The owners and their dog were pleasant attendants and were definitely interested in talking beer. It is good to see a place bringing good beer to the southern Beltway area as the North/West has more coverage. I am interested to see how this place grows.

Tucked away in an industrial park off the I95 corridor just outside the beltway. Very raw space, really just a bar and a board with the beers. Not sure if they give tours, maybe down the line. 11 beers on tap while I was there, a good mix of styles and ABVs. 4oz taster glasses cost $2.50 to $3.50 a piece depending on the beer. Would love to taste for free, but hey, I get it. Kind of cool that they can serve 13oz pours for $5 or so. 32oz growlers for $10-$15 and 64oz growlers for $18-25. Perhaps a bit pricey there. Honestly, the staff there is spectacular. They are easy to chat with, engaging and can speak specifically about each beer. One slight issue was that the ABVs for each beer werenít listed on the board. Overall, very solid brewery. Up and comer.

This is a new place, brewery occupying one half of the premises and a cavernous tasting room in the other half. It only seemed cavernous because the stupid Virginia building code doesnít allow the place to have tables and chairs. Oh well. The beers were very solid, especially the session beers. Apparently gets sort of crowded on Fridays, less so the rest of the weekend. Brewer Matt is happy to discuss the beers. Definitely worth a stop.

Located right off of Interstate 95, this place hidden in an light industrial park but it looks like they have a bit of room to grow. Brew equipment is for small batches, but heard that a 10bbl system is on its way (sometime soon). Certainly worth a trip if youíre in the area to see the place in its infancy. Staff and brewer are friendly, polite, and talkative. They had all of their first brews available except one. Iíll re-rate when this place grows and I return.
