Nice place across the bus station, inside it is also a hotel reception, but the bar occupies the biggest part. Concrete floors, white walls with big panorama windows direct on street level. Music played at conversation friendly volume, good service and tap selection is also on the good side, be aware that happy hours beers are only the most boring ones, but I was more than happy with their bottle and tap selection.
Awesome place now with ~12 beers on tap, including lots of Gćđingur and a few Borg. Come between happy hour and get 0.5L pours for 600 ISK and 0.33L pours for 400 ISK - a fantastic deal in Iceland. Extensive bottle selection as well that isn’t as well priced. Very friendly service which was happy to give free samples. Definitely worth a stop.
This small hotel bar has a fair selection of Icelandic beers but the service is spotty. We did not try to order food though there did appear to be some available from the hotel. A somewhat cozy place but I would rather spend my time elsewhere in town.
Large-ish place at the far eastern side of the city center, near the bus terminal. Looks like a hotel lobby on the right, bar is on the left with an eclectic mixture of Ikea style furniture and stuff from your grandmother’s living room. Bar opens at 2, and there’s a happy hour til 5. Nice mix of local taps and local bottles. Friendly service, interesting customers, including an older lady with an ear-piercing whistle when she needs another beer. Very effective. Big picture windows so you can watch the world go by. Good coffee too. Worth a look.
Bar in a hostel/hotel. Many bars in this area are attached to hostels. Wide selection of beer, closes at 11pm which is a drag when the sun goes down never in June (when I was here). Great service. Expensive but that is Iceland.
A new place across from the downtown bus terminal in perhaps the most beautiful building downtown Reykjavik. Newly renovated part of the house is a hostel and soon the whole house will be a center for arts and crafts. I came in during happy hour on a friday. A bit too bright, some drunks in their 60´s licking up local lagers on cheap. They have a good bottle selection though and bonus points for keeping glassware proper and clean. Early days, hopefully they will contiune focus on craft beer and when the student housing across from the bus terminal will be completed and then this place will be buzzing.
