This is mostly a wine store but the beer they have is not the run of the mill stuff. There were three taps running when i was there and many bottles, including cold singles for take away. They had some Iowa beers, but more large format craft beers and some imports. For me it was great as my hotel was right next door. I donít know what your average store has on Des Moines, but this place seems worth the stop.

This place was underwhelming for even someone looking for a bottle of wine years ago... but man have they come a long way.
The place has a very extensive & interesting beer selection. Nowhere in this neighborhood will you find a better selection of beers.
Some of the prices seem remarkably low, some of them seem shockingly high. Most stuff is sold in singles, and a good number of the beers are in a cooler. My understanding is that they serve a good number of their beers to folks lounging and drinking within the facility, so lots of the stuff in the cooler is marked at what one would call "bar prices" but the to go price of these bottles is reduced by $1, which for stuff thatís $4.50 (most stuff in the cooler is) this takes it down to a pretty reasonable take out price.
These folks are doing what wine shops in the neighborhood have been trying to do for quite some time now with beer. The difference is that in the past itís been folks who know a lot about wine just buying beers that seem "fancy" whereas I get the feeling that the ownership here actually cares enough to stock exciting and exotic beers, and quite a few of them at that.
I sure hope this place doesnít give up on beer the way every wine shop in West Des Moines seems to. I like this place, I like that it is where it is & I hope they keep on keepiní on.
