Enjoyed my visit to this pub, my favourite of those visited during a tour of Edinburghís Good Beer Guide pubs. Ales were very well kept, with a nice selection available. Service was great, with a cracking atmosphere. One I want to return too and time I will rate íem all.

Only really interesting beer wise for the 4 cask offerings from either Northern English or Scottish micros (occasional beer festivals). Loads of character, although perhaps not as much as 20 or so years ago.

Visited on Saturday 9th January 2016. A quick stop before my train back south. Not difficult to find and just a set of steps from Waverley. Itís a small place wiith railway memorabilia all over the walls. 4 cask beers, quite often themed from a brewery. 4 different on my visit. Beer in decent condition, prices not too bad. Iíve been here plenty of the years. Undoubtedbly better places in Edinburgh but itís a good little pub and I like it.

Not much of a selection but sometimes a few interesting beers. Very cosy.

Small traditional pub located in an alley which connects to Royal Mile. Girl working there was kind, but also more interested in her mobile phone than serving customers. Selection is limited to four casks, local breweries. Prices were good. Beer wise not an essential place in Edinburgh, but it has charm.

Oh dear. Great location, on a steeply stepped alley between the Mound and the Royal Mile. Decor by Life on Mars offcuts, cask quality poor - one barely recognisable, one off and one good - and nil else. Food by microwave. Surviving by being at the dull end of "trad". Needs a thoughtful revamp.

A compact backstreet boozer with loads of character and pedestrian beer. Itís worth a visit here for the ambiance alone; itís not high class, but it is fun. The beer range is limited to things like bitter and golden ale, but if you arenít from the area you are likely to find something youíve not had before. The service here is fine; on our visit, it seemed like our womanly server was nursing a rather stupendous hangover - and we stopped by in the evening.

Not one of the top spots in Edinburgh but certainly worth a visit if you have the time.

Halfway House is a tiny traditional Scottish freehouse located down the infamous fleshmarket close. You can get from Waverley to here in only a few minutes. It has a rather jovial atmosphere and eclectic mix of clientele. They offer 4 cask ales from Scottish microbreweries and usually have some obscurities. Beer is in good condition and turnover seems to be rather quick. They offer a simple, good value Scottish luncheon with stovies, mince & tatties and Cullen skink etc, Well worth stopping past for half, which I usually do when in Edinburger.

Qaint little boozer just off the Royal Mile. 4 casks on, nice selection of regional Scottish brews. Absolutely packed both times we visited and the place also had a rather pervasive odour of garbage. Good atmosphere nonetheless.
