Halfway House is a tiny traditional Scottish freehouse located down the infamous fleshmarket close. You can get from Waverley to here in only a few minutes. It has a rather jovial atmosphere and eclectic mix of clientele. They offer 4 cask ales from Scottish microbreweries and usually have some obscurities. Beer is in good condition and turnover seems to be rather quick. They offer a simple, good value Scottish luncheon with stovies, mince & tatties and Cullen skink etc, Well worth stopping past for half, which I usually do when in Edinburger.

Qaint little boozer just off the Royal Mile. 4 casks on, nice selection of regional Scottish brews. Absolutely packed both times we visited and the place also had a rather pervasive odour of garbage. Good atmosphere nonetheless.

A cool tiny pub full of locals watching tennis. Good selection of 4-5 real ales. Worth checking out.

The first pint always goes down well after the step climb from Waverely.
Tiny little pub which always carries a good atmosphere, mix of tourists, locals and people who like good beer.
Turnover of people is fairly rapid as most folks tend to stop for 1 pint, maybe 2, so if you donít bag one of the 4 or so tables on arrival, chances are youíll get one sooner or later.
4 cask handpulls serving Scottish micros as a rule. Harviestoun, Houston and Devonales on my last visit.
Service is prompt, CAMRA discount available (50p a pint).
Look out for the old guy with the beard and long grey smokers hair - he is ALWAYS there whenever Iíve visited at lunchtime.
Always worth dropping in for a quick pint for the atmosphere and to take in the cosiness of one of Edinburghs smallest pubs. The beer range is small but always well kept. Last visit - Saturday 08/12/12.

Nice small cosy pub serving well kept Scottish beers, good value food including Cullen Skink and Haggis. Friendly service and close to Waverley station.

Cracking little bar halfway up and halfway down a very steep set of steps. Still a great place, even if the replacement bar just doesnít do it justice at all. Has occasional interesting cask festivals.

Pretty small pub, homey for being right off the royal mile. You canít order food at the bar, but we sat with some locals. The food (paninis & steak and ale pie) was good, the service was "brisk". Decent prices.

Visited this pub on the Great Graig Pubcrawl Tour 23/4-2012.
As the name say this very small, traditionel city pub, is place halfway between 2 streets, down ( or up ) the stairs.
And it is very small, with 4 handpumps, and beers from all UK. There is limited space in the pub, put 20 people in there and it will be crowded. Placed very close to the train station, I would say itīs a must to visit this pub, whether you are into beers or not :-).
They do small pub snacks, but donīt think they do any food.

Atmospheric city centre pub halfway up a huge flight of steps and between old and new towns. Not really a beer paradise hence the lower mark and it took forever to get served, must disguise the English accent somehow, but friendly banter and customers and a good place to be.
