What a gem! I enjoyed an order of moules & frites that were outstanding last night, but the kicker was an Oerbier draft from a wooden cask branded Schneiderweis...the spigot was Lowenbrau. The cask had been tapped on Sunday, and it was beautiful on the following Tuesday. All bottles beers are $2 off on Tuesdays as well, so I was able to compare and contrast the bottled Oerbier with the cask version...big difference, but both versions were great. Brasserie V is without a doubt in my mind, the best Belgian cafe that Iíve visited in the US. Highly recommended and worth a detour.

I put Brasserie V as the best beer bar in Madison. The selection is always great the food, while limited, is top notch, locally sourced (usually) and not standard pub fare. While they usually have some standard Beligians, they always have some rarities on tap and a hug selection in the bottles. Lots of events that are well donce. A gem in a beery town.

Visited August 10, 2012 (GTMW eve).
This place is on a dark street (or at least it was dark when I went) and I was questioning the cab driver until we pulled up and I saw the small sign above the door. They had a bunch of Destihl beers on tap which were fun to try. Three sours and three non sours, most of which were good. The place was pretty full but I had no problem getting a glass of everything I wanted. Prices were reasonable, service was good, and the place although packed was friendly enough.

Need to caveat this one by saying that I currently live in Belgium. That said, this place is a phenomenal U.S. version of a "Belgian" bar, and has a better selection than most places Iíve visited in Belgium. The staff is extremely knowledgable. Poured each beer in the correct glass, making sure to leave the yeast in the bottle when applicable. I saw many items on their menu that Iíve had difficulty tracking down in Belgium. Itís all a bit pricey, but thatís to be expected. Canít comment on the food as I didnít partake. Will definitely come here every time I visit Madison.

I go here at least once a month on $2 off Tuesday. Always crowded and doesnít take reservations, but thereís plenty of beer to keep you busy while you wait. Great bottle selection from Belgian breweries large and small. Always something interesting on tap, but almost all European, which is sort of in conflict with the food menu, which is ostentatiously local (and delicious). Best burgers in town! Deserts are also very good.

Pretty great place, if perpetually crowded. We went on a Friday night at around 6:00 and waited for about 40 minutes. Squeezing into the bar to grab a drink while we were waiting took a bit of maneuvering, but the staff was friendly and prompt. Good tap selection, if small: my fiancee and I drank Nogne O der Kollaberator, Nogne O Winter, Saison Dupont, and Samichlaus. Food was good, though we stuck with sandwiches to save $. As I said, crowded, but you need to come here at least once.

Nice little restaurant with a Belgian influenced tap list and a comfortable neifhborhood feel. Huge bottle list, good food and not unreasonably priced. Great spot for delicious food and a wide selection of Belgian, European and American craft brews. Good, friendly service.

This is a nice, cozy little place not far from UW campus. Patrons were a healthy mix of college students and older faculty-types, as well as families. Not very big, so it was pretty crowded, only a dozen or so tables and equal number of seats at the bar. No dress code, but youíd feel underdressed in a t-shirt. I only recall healthy beers, most of them Belgian. Not even many local favorites like Capital or New Glarus. The staff was friendly, rather knowledgeable and eager to offer opinions on beer/food pairings. The whole atmosphere was proper but short of pretentious. Food was as exotic as the beers, and they have some great cheese boards. Worth stopping in after work.
