58 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 12/20 cards04 (52) Steinbach, Manitoba | January 7, 2013 Went here for sunday brunch and it was packed. Bartender was friendly, and the food was good. That’s where the compliments end. The only beer I saw on tap was their own brew, which wasn’t good. They may have macro bottles, but who cares? | 56 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 11/20 northropfrye (97) Steinbach, Manitoba | January 6, 2013| Updated January 19, 2013 Generic suburban restaurant and bar like in any strip mall. At first we were plopped in with about 25 families with crying babies, then we moved to the bar, which is where I recommend sitting at this place. The food was decent. The beer is very mediocre. This place is just for ratings whores, or, if, like us, you happen to pull up and there it is. But it’s no destination brewpub by any means. Very cheap flights available. | 64 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 12/20 khoffman43 (70) Bloomington, Minnesota | September 26, 2012| Updated January 19, 2013 Have a few pretty decent tap beers, nothing too crazy. Been here quite a few times with the family. Food is good if you stick with burgers/sandwiches/etc. You can try all the different beers they offer and the mug club is a good deal if you frequent any of their locations. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 15/20 kbutler1 (79) Minnesota | June 7, 2010| Updated January 19, 2013 I stayed in a hotel for about a month by here and used to go in all the time. The staff was really friendly and let me totally customize what I wanted. The beers are ok but nothing out of this world. The staff is not really knowledgeable about craft beers in particular but overall not a bad place to go. Gets pretty busy as this is right by the mall. | 68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 5/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 17/20 13mikey (8) New Hope, Minnesota | September 13, 2009| Updated January 19, 2013 Can’t compete with bars that offer wide selections of craft beers but their own beers that they do offer are a nice variety anyway. The options are very sufficient to go with most of the food that they offer. The food is definitely the reason to go here. Very wide array which is nice if one person in your party wants Italian, one wants Mexican, one wants steak and one wants pizza. Your best bet is to go here on a Monday night when you can sign up for the mug club for a half price cost of only $10. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 6/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 14/20 bluemooner (14) East Bethel, Minnesota | July 1, 2009| Updated January 19, 2013 Clean, friendly environment with comfortable seeting and televisions displaying the Twins game. Large windows displayed the brewing kettles which was interesting. Service was attentive and friendly though a bit clumsy. Food was quite good: I ordered the chicken parmesan which was excellent. Their brews are ok, though I agree that many of the servers know very little about the beer. It was a bit crowded for a Thursday evening also. Wroth a try for sure. | 42 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 4/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 7/20 JK (206) Uptown, Minneapolis, Minnesota | January 3, 2007| Updated January 19, 2013 Dark, woodsy bar. Bartenders didn’t seem to know what they were pouring using terms like dark and light to describe the beer, but they were friendly enough. Suburbs, so mostly families in this location. Crowded on a weekday evening. I didn’t eat, food looked OK. | 64 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 MoreHead (14) Minnetonka, Minnesota | April 15, 2006| Updated January 19, 2013 had a very tasty 5 alarm burger and that was the highlight. beers were fun to try but thought they were to safe and not very interesting. worth a visit if you want a session but don’t go out of your way. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 8/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 MIBRomeo (141) Wisconsin | January 5, 2006 Nov 7th 05
I liked this place a lot.. it appeared very new and while the wait was long on friday night once we got a table our food was quick and delicious.. The beers were the standards accross every one while I was there as the specialties were out. The selection of taps was limited to only theirs that I saw. Service was top notch and I had fun. | 66 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 13/20 ElGaucho (207) Minnetonka, Minnesota | May 5, 2005 My 1st official trip to this GC; the 1st time I tried to go there was shortly after they opened & we couldn’t get a table. Sat in the patio which is almost perfectly situated on the North side of the building which gets a good dose of sun in the evening. Very pleasant, upscale interior. Large window displays the brewing kettles, so you know you are in a brewpub. The service was very attentive & I must have counted over a dozen different servers come out to the patio between 4:30-7:30. Never had to wait to order a beer. Which leads me to the beer. I echo badgerben’s comments in that it is avg. Head brewmaster, Bill Burdick, owned the highly acclaimed Sherlock’s Home in Minnetonka which strangely closed a couple of yrs ago, despite seemingly always being full and offering unique, quality food & beer product. Given the fact that Sherlock’s had a solid stable of excellent beers, I find it puzzling that GC doesn’t have a single stand out beer in their lineup, which has not changed one iota in the 4 years since I 1st visited a GC. Their idea of new beers is to mix 2 of them together. I am wary of any brewpub that does that; it is a clear statement that "our beers aren’t good enough on their own." And true enough, the IPA-Maibock mix is better than either individually. It appears Mr. Burdick sold out for profitability’s sake, which has been a real loss to the craft beer community. |
