Update May 2011: After leaving the area for 3 years and returning, Iíd heard that G&G had built from a great start, but putting eyes on their lineup made me a believer. Whenever I find a store that carries stuff Iíve never even heard of, that says something! With a full half of this store dedicated to quality brew, G&G is now THE retail stop in Hampton Roads. From obscure imports to just about any US micro available in Virginia, if you canít find it here, you canít find it. BTW, if you drop in, tell Kevin youíre a Ratebeerian and make an instant friend! Great people!
Oct 2007 comments: A chance appointment on the south side of the water gave me the opportunity to check this place out and it was a pleasant surprise. The very friendly husband and wife team manage a small but power-packed lineup of quality brews, highlighted by a strong representation by Stone, including some cool Stone-related knick knacks. I managed to find a half dozen or so new ones, plus some harder to find gems (Oaked Bastard, for example). Bit far for me to be a regular visitor, but worth a stop if youíre in the area.

Raided Total Wine and Whole Foods, then went to G&G. At first I thought I was in the wrong place because the inside of the store is custom glassware, jams, chutnies, home-made touristy goods. Uhh.. Walked in and still didnít see beer- oh there it is on the right wall. A good amount of single bottles separated out US and non-US. Picked up a few singles of stuff Iíd been wanting to try from Evil Twin, didnít see anything of interest really otherwise. Some odd low abv Italian stuff on sale for $3. A fresh case of Beach Brewing Hoptopus had arrived, but sitting out unfridged. -__- Staff was happy to have us in there. Only thing was that I felt awkward in this shop and the bottle list perusing was more like trying to look at a used car than stopping by for some beer. Overall, didnít see a whole lot here that wasnít for sale at Total Wine and Whole Foods though the prices for same beers were sometimes more expensive at G&G and sometimes less expensive. Hmm. Expect a lot of Terrapin, Italian oddities (Troll, Barley, Ducato), handfuls of De Dolle, Evil Twin/Mikkeller, Stillwater, De Proef Master Series.

Stopped by here before Immyís big gathering on 7/18/09. Itís in a strip mall location which sucks for ambience but is great for parking. Even so, the ambience is pretty cool too. Large space... the front is filled with craft items and the left side of the store is wine, but on the right there is a very ample beer selection. Lots of selections from everywhere including some rarer items. Decent selections of Belgians, including lambics, U.S. beers with others thrown in. Good variety. No macro. Glassware selection is very small but has good selections. I believe both of the people there were owners of the place and both were very friendly. Kevin, the beer guy, is on Ratebeer as GandGKevin and is very nice and very honest about the brews, even going so far as to include Ratebeer shelf tags for bad beers. Prices are just a tick above average but they offer a 10% discount on mixed cases that more than makes up for it. I hear from the locals that this is it as bottle shops go in the area, aside from a Total Wine or two, so stop here. Itís rare that you get to support a cool Ratebeerian and visit an awesome store at the same time.

This place its the real deal. Great bottle selection, and as noted in previous reviews, no "wasted" bottles. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable, and even offered to set some kbs aside for me when they get it in feb. I didnít find any of my whales here, but I was still impressed.

Number one choice when in Virginia Beach. Stuff is very friendly and helpful. It was great to see weekly beer tastings. Selection is constantly expanding.

In a strip mall a few miles from the beaches. Huge selection of beers - great selection of regional, domestic and foreign beers - all available as singles. Great place.

Stopped in here while on business. I was greeted with an immediate and enthusiastic hi and was asked to be helped. They had good prices on beer that they had bought in bulk and sold in singles. You could find about everything a good beer store sells. Rate beer ratings everywhere were helpful and I would say that the median rating of beers they carried was about 85. Fantastic beer store and I will go back anytime i am in the area.

Iíd been told about this by some of my friends in the area and their interest in checking this place out while I visited.
I checked out the beer list online and was impressed. From the outside of the store you wouldnít believe that this place could have such a good selection. This is not to say that it did not look good, but it certainly has more of a different feel.
This is not the case once you actually get to their selection. What looks like a small section of the store is actually full of a vast array of beers that Iíve never seen collected in one place before (at least no beer store).
I was in there for about an hour and talked to the owners for nearly the entire time. They have excellent tastes and were great to gauge about beers they carry. Brutally honest with their selection - telling me when they absolutely didnít like something and also suggestions about other beers (letting them sit a while for instance). Almost every beer in the store has a description with the overall percentage straight from RateBeer! This place will be a stopping point each time Iím in the area.

Not really a beer store, but they do stock several seasonals and rarities. The great part is the service - they will try to get ANYTHING. I asked for two rather hard to get Allagash beers (Interlude and 11th) and they had them the next day! Stock select 3F and Stone, plus others. Worth a check if you are in the area. They do free wine tastings (with some food, too) every Friday, and when a single vineyard is featured, the taste a few beers, too.br
UPDATE 01DEC06 - Kevin has REALLY ramped up his selection! This is quickly becoming a must see in Virginia Beach!
UPDATE 13JUN07 - this is now officially THE place in Virginia Beach to find beer! Kevin is shooting for 300 different beers, and should soon attain that goal. Combine that with excellent service and Kevinís willingness to go to the ends of the earth to find the beer you want and you get a top-notch beer store disguised as a wine and gift shop.
FINAL UPDATE: Kevin has lost his mind and finally surpassed the 5

Small store, but no crap. Everything is available as singles, and almost everything has a RateBeer tag. Very good store.
