74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 5/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tampierre (5) Pilsen, Czech Republic | April 9, 2013 Nice quiet and relaxing atmosphere ; Service might be improved ; Superb selection of 6+ local ales ; Fairly priced ; One of the best places in Exeter to enjoy local real ale. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 16/20 niquillis (75) Stoke on Trent, England | December 18, 2011 I last visited 2 years ago and the range has completely changed is now local beers. I do think it’s a travesty that this pub is no longer in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide, it’s far superior to the Wetherspoons just up the hill. 7 ales on from Palmers, Dartmoor, RCH amongst others. Well worth it and if you arrive in Exeter by train you have no excuse! | 34 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 3/10 SELECTION 2/15 FOOD 4/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 10/20 lambic (60) Newton Poppleford, England | September 28, 2010 This used to be one of the best plsces for cask beer in Exeter with over ten hand pumps serving beer from around the country, these days the range is around four or five usually well kept westcountry beers. Food is good pub food. Very handy for St Davids station | 62 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 11/20 downender (227) Bristol, England | July 28, 2009 Visited 26/07/09. Not much has changed decoration wise since Gazza’s visit - some of the upholstery looked new, but the hotel itself remains rooted in the 1950s. 8 ales were on, 3 RCH, 3 from Devon and a couple of guests from wider afield, including the excellent Ufford White Hart which was served in tip top condition. Bar maids were efficient and prices pretty good for this part of the world. Will visit again. | 54 AMBIANCE 2/5 SERVICE 4/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 10/20 Gazza (160) Worcester, England | November 30, 2007 A very old-fashioned hotel by St David’s station which looks as if it’s not been touched for 30 years. The bar sells by far the largest range of beers in Exeter, up to a dozen, although sometimes the quality can be dodgy and the rarity varies. A good ten-minute walk from the centre of town but only a minute from St Davids, worth a look. Nearby is a huge Wetherspoons (on the hill) and a few other pubs sell real ales. |
