100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 scottyshades (3) Parkland, Florida, Florida | September 20, 2012 Been following the Charleston BX newsletter for over a year now, drooling at the new selections and growlers. Now I’m finally close enough to drive down to Greenville from Clemson
Quality: Very high turnover (something which is rare in the upstate and Greenville area) - kegs always fresh, excellent growler selections, and the store itself is awesomely laid out
Service: Zack and Cam are beyond friendly and helpful...both BA’s as well. Awesome service, very quick, very knowledgeable
Selection: Cantillion (Lou Pepe/ Rose etc!) and other sours, Bell’s, Founders, Foothills, Terrapin, COAST, Sweetwater nuff said...rare/limited release included. Check the website for continuously updated selections
Definitely the best beer store I’ve been to, highly recommended | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 20/20 DiarmaidBHK (523) Pennsylvania | January 9, 2013 To say this is one of the best beer stors in the world is not an opinion but merely a statement of fact. Located on what seems like a sleepy side street, but in fact just around the corner from Barley’s, this place is like a temple beer. As others have noted the selection is fantastic full of great brewers from all over the world with plenty of seasonals and a couple of rarities to whet your whistle. The service was very kind and hospitable and they seemed very enthusiasitic when we mentioned we’d heard about their store on rate beer. They’re very big fans of the site. Parking one the street is limited but there’s a parking garage a block away and they also gave us a voucher for 30 minutes of parking which was very nice. I can’t wait to go back again. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 20/20 scuzzlebutt (1) South Carolina | July 10, 2011 Knowledgeable and friendly staff that always makes me feel at home. Less pretentious than I have found The Community Tap to be. This place has a TON of different breweries and selections to choose from not to mention the ever changing growler offerings. Just can’t go wrong at GBX. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 msquared (1) , | February 9, 2013 I have visited the Greenville Beer Exchange somewhat regularly since last summer as it is on my way from Atlanta to Charlotte and I make a point to stop in every time I go to see the the folks. The selection is absolutely fantastic and is organized in a way that it is quite easy to find exactly what you are looking for. The guys who run the shop, Zach and Cameron, are extremely knowledgeable about their stock and have helped me on a number of occasions to choose beer for not only myself but my trading partners and mother as well. (My mother loves the funk and there is never a short supply or new things to try) In addition to the wonderful selection and employees, the fact that the shop is dog friendly is a huge plus for me. As I stated earlier, I am normally traveling when I visit the shop so it’s nice that I can bring my giant lab in with me to stretch his legs. All in all, this is a world class beer shop that should be a must stop for anyone passing through the area. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 thagr81_us (24) Gaffney, South Carolina | May 20, 2011 Stopped in here quite a couple of times upon opening and once before to check things out. The key to this establishment is location. Located just down the alley beside Barley’s. There is a large parking lot on the other side of the alley, but be careful where and when you park as they patrol it quite often and check for payments being deposited. Upon walking in you are greeted by shelves on your right FULL of glassware with the counter on your left. I have always been promptly greeted upon walking in. Moving forward into the store you will see a center section COVERED in beer and tall shelves on both your left and right full of beer as well. Along the back wall you will see a fairly large cooler section with 16 taps beside it setup for growler fills. Yes, that is 16! There is also a hallway that branches off toward their storage room that is lined with beers as well. For me to say that the beer selection is good is a COMPLETE understatement. It is crazy some of the things you see on the shelves here... If you are a sour fan you will feel right at home in their sour section in the hallway. Trust me on this one... Every person that works at this location is a complete and total beer geek (much like myself). So they are excellent at recommending brews for you. All you have to do is ask. Feel free to stick around and carry on a conversation with them as well, as they are quite friendly. Glad to see this store open up finally after all of the rumors, but my wallet is going to hate it I’m sure. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 ksurkin (13) Norfolk, Virginia | December 2, 2012 after going to college in greenville and watching the city grow it’s beer scene over the last 10 years it’s clear that GBX is the crown jewel of craft beer in this great city. Zach and Cameron run the place flawlessly and could not be more friendly or knowledgeable about beer. the selection would be hard to beat anywhere in the world, nonetheless in the USA. the growler selection always features rarities, one-off’s, and just plain great beers. they even helped my mom out with some growlers a while back, how cool is that? this store really does it right and does more to promote craft beer than to promote themselves. a true "must stop" for any craft beer fan making the trip through south carolina. cheers! | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 brooker (1) South Carolina | May 21, 2013 This is the place. The service is top flight and the selection cannot be beat. Weekly tastings are accompanied by education on styles and brewery history. Some tastings are even done with local food shops to demonstrate proper pairings. The shop is also dog friendly. Located in the heart of downtown Greenville, it’s easy to find. It’s also next door to Greenville’s best beer bar. You really need to stop in and visit if you’re in town. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 Cybercat (140) Georgia | April 26, 2013 This place can be a pain in the arse to find, but well worth the effort. Parking is best in one of the nearby garages - I lucked out and parked in front, but could stay only 15 minutes. Service is first-rate - the fellow pointed me straight to some excellent South Carolina brews, and managed to get me out in time. He even came after me when I left my oh-so-important beers tried list hardcopy behind - extra point there! Prices appear to be reasonable. I hope that next time I visit Greenville I can spend more time in this great beer boutique. | 98 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 LSUPT (10) Louisiana | October 11, 2011 Visited the guys at GBX this past summer and I’m still longing for their store’s selection. Great atmosphere and decor with tons of beer organized alphabetically and separated into craft and import sections. Taps on the back wall and several fridge doors. Selection was incredible. I was mainly looking for craft and was able to find a ton of stuff I was looking for: Southern Tier, Bell’s, COAST, Duck Rabbit, Ballast Point, Great Divide, Avery etc., but in perusing their incredible selection of Belgians and other imports I was able to hit several of my wants and I saw many others that I would have loved to pick up. huge selection of Mikkeller, Brewdog, Fantome etc. They also had an awesome selection of glassware that I hadn’t even seen most of before. It did seem a little bit more pricey than other stores I went to, but it was nothing out of the ordinary or I wouldn’t pay again, great experience. | 98 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 20/20 NachlamSie (447) Tennessee | January 2, 2012 Definitely one of the best beer stores I’ve ever patronized. It’s remarkably similar to the Charleston location but even had a slightly more enticing selection on my visits, namely an impressive selection of smoked beers. The sales clerk was outstandingly knowledgable and helpful. On the rare occasion he hadn’t tasted a beer I asked about he straight up told me he hadn’t personally tasted it rather than putting up a facade like I often encounter. I can’t sing the praises enough of the service. Most every beer I looked at was fresh which is a huge plus. I am eager for a return visit. |
