Made the hike uphill to Greifenklau only to find it completely full inside! Had a quick look around. Another brewpub Iíll need to revisit when back in Bamberg.

I expected some more beer here, they only had a Lager and a Weizen, but the Lager was tasty. Itís 20 minutes far from Altes Rathaus, on foot. Nice atmosphere, though.

Visited several times with my parents. It is a bit away from the citycenter, but still within walking distance, and there are also parking nearby. There are a very nice beergarden, with lots of chestnut trees :-). Friendly service, beers mostly in good condition, both the regulars and the seasonals. They do food as well, traditionel franconian food. Its possible to buy bottles to take away.

Big courtyard garden with a view over hrees to the castle. Three beers on tap, apparenlty the Pils is now brewed on site, rather than contracted out. Typical good prices. Friendly service. The inside rooms were closed.

Small beer garden with some view of the gardens nearby. Only one beer on tap at my visit, Greifenklau Lager, tasted ok. Rather slow service , even if I was the only customer.

This is Bambergís brewery with the smallest capacity. They have only one beer but this is very tasteful. I like the beer garden in the summer and food is great too. As the other 8 traditional breweries a must place to visit.

After walking up the hill in a sunny weather we went backside to the beer garden. I had the lager and found it nice. the food was also good. The service was friendly and quick. Great view to Altenburg castle. Will gladly return.

Visited twice in March 2012. Really nice traditional place inside with wood paneling and a stove. The back garden was locked so I couldnít observe the famous view of the castle. They seemed to be trying out a new smoke beer which had only a touch of smokiness about it and was a bit metallic. Had different experiences with Lager: first time it seemed a bit astringent while it was much better on the second visit. I ate the leberkose which is served with an egg and potato salad. It was good although the potato salad was a bit lame. The 912, 918, and 937 buses all stop at the Laurenziplatz if you donít fancy the walk up the hill. Update July 2013. I can confirm that the biergarten has a fine view of castle and is pleasant otherwise.

Greifenklau is a bit outside the centre, but easily reached by bus. If you walked up there you have earned yourselve a beer or two. In summer the back garden is open, huge and shaded with a great view towards the Altenburg. The Lager (Kellerbier) is very good when on form. Laurenzibier is a darker Kellerbier for the Laurenzi-Kirchweih, so a seasonal. Food is traditional and of a decent quality. They only brew the Lager, Keller and Bockbier here, Pils and Weizen are brewed for them.
