Artsy/music dive bar with pretty good pizza. Around 16-20 taps with pretty good selection. A good place to grab some pizza and a beer, but there are some better beer bars in Kansas City

Been her a few times in my few years in Kansas. Nothing I search out. Slightly punk/hippy/alternative lifestyle kind o vibe to it but a more hip/cool feel to the place next door. Coll that they have a large backyard with a stage where they inexplicably convince nationally-recognized bands to perform, so not only is it a bar and restaurant, it is also a music venue. Decent selection of regional beer on tap - nothing too exciting, but some quality product. food was decent, they go for the pizza and sandwich vibe. Come if you want but nothing special.

A dive with a vision. Plenty of unusual beers on tap when we visited, to go with unusual waitresses who were unusually inked. We had a bacon-cream cheese-chive pizza with a pile of tater tots and chili in the middle of it. It was the right thing to do. Narrow-room bar with plenty of strange art and other oddities on the walls and elsewhere. A comfortable, casual joint that would be a regular haunt if I lived in KC. Cheers to the server who let me snap a photo of her Vader and Boba Fett tatts.

Visited with beastiefan2k - interesting place that has a slightly punk/hippy/alternative lifestyle kind o vibe to it - doubly interesting because it has a large backyard with a stage where they inexplicably convince nationally-recognized bands to perform, so not only is it a bar and restaurant, it is also a music venue - so so selection of regional beer on tap - nothing too exciting, but some quality product - they serve all the beer in chilled glasses, which is a big turn off for me - food was decent, but nothing that made me wish I could return - service was a little inattentive, but not to the point where it was an annoyance - a decent spot.

Awesome place! A cool little bar with an awesome outdoor view of the skyline. Beer selection was very good. Service was good, knowledgeable about the beer, but could seem a little busy at times to help a non-regular. Seemed to be a lot of regulars there. The food kicked ass. The pizza with smoked salmon, cream cheese and capers rocked! I really enjoyed this place.

An interesting beer spot in KC, alternative is the word .. punks and hippies, with a good dose of drunk dikes. my tattooed covered waitress was friendly, but my first 3 choices of beer were all sold out, so basically this place was a pizza place, no more. but the pizza i had was amazing and sandwich my mom had was also amazing. i enjoyed my stop- but not having a good beer with dinner killed the score.. and the bathroom was disgusting and full of flies...

Funky is definitely the word to be used to describe Grinderís. Add great pizza and good beer and this place is a winner. The fact that the brewers from Boulevard hang out in here should be enough to recommend it.

How have I never rated this place?!? Grinderís is a funky spot in the Crossroads Art District that I first visited after seeing the local establishment on Food Network several years ago. They have an eclectic set of food (and BEER) offerings, ranging from Bengal Tiger pizza to deathly-hot wings to fantastic Philly cheese steaks. Clusters of taps include nice rotations of semi-unique brews mixed with the standard local offerings. Bottle selection is sometimes amazing, and almost always above average. Not the cheapest place to get a drink and a meal, and certainly not the fastest service when busy, but a great atmosphere and nice people.

Total rewrite. Quality has declined after sale of establishement and beer selection is no where what it was. Why screw with a great business model? (FIRST EVAL: Itís a dive. But itís a great dive. If you like rustic, gnarly, beat-up, split-wood floors and pressed tin ceilings with grotty paint, cheap naugahyde (i.e. 1950ís decor) with sassy serving wenches, paper plates, rude fliers tacked up everywhere, blue- collar-cow-town hicks and suits under one roof with a good beer selection, youíll like Grinderís. Grinderís West (never been there myself) is next door and serves the same food with a little better clientele (i.e. the snooty and pretentious). The value rating on this so far is off in my opinion. The portions are large, the prices reasonable, the food is good--less than 80% is not accurate in my opinion.)

Very interesting place. The food is pretty good and the beer selection is very nice. They always have a good amount of beer on tap and many bottles.
