Nice ambience in this place, bigger then expected and located in a cellar. Service was very fast. Food was decent, I got a dry schweinhaxe but my wife got a nice and juice one. A whole schweinhaxe with bratkartoffeln and sauerkraut was way to much for me, a half would have suffice (I’m a big guy at 110+ kg).
A huge cellar bar, wooden floors, bare brick walls and beer garden like furniture. We visited on a murky November evening and the place was packed, with a noisy, almost party like atmosphere. We were shown to our table and the server came over with the menu. I chose the 2 beers available to try and we had a ’Fischteller’ to share, then went to the buffet for some ’Spießbraten mit bratkartoffeln’. The beers came, both were perfectly drinkable. The food was outstanding, typically German, very tasty and the ideal partner to the beer. The bill wasn’t too bad either. Not a beer ticker’s paradise, but well worth a visit for the food and atmosphere.
Cellar bar, long and narrow as you enter but widens out. Coppers on display. Sat at stools near the bar with converted barrels for tables. Nice old traditional place. Beer is ok, again wouldn’t rush back after trying the beer.
First customers of the day: 11th Dec 2014. Really liked the layout and ’coolness’ of the whole place. A lovely cellar set up with a never ending corridor like length of rooms: all laid out for Christmas parties and groups of people we never actually saw come in. Two beers on tap, each bland and uninteresting. Lady who served us would rather chat to other members of staff and eat than pour my beers: good job no one else was within a mile of her bar area!
