68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 7/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 tomciccateri (115) Albuquerque, New Mexico | September 20, 2011 Unique movie set locale in the fairgrounds. Check hours before you set foot from the ferry dock. Small, standing-only bar with immediate view into stainless steel brewhouse. Owner/brewer Paul very pesonable and informative. They sell all they can brew to locals, with growler fills very popular. Distinctive beers, especially the mellow and non-piney spruce-tip beer. Most go well with salmon! Local beerfest is an immediate sell-out. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 14/20 nbutler11 (301) Phoenix, Arizona | June 19, 2010 This place is part of the set of White Fang, which I found hilarious. Tiny spot, but with a respectable number of taps. No taps, just beer. | 78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 17/20 nahthan (5) Oakland, California | January 3, 2006 If you like beer and you find yourself in Haines, you absolutely must visit the Haines Brewing Co. An excellent little brewery easily found hiding in the fairgrounds of this little town. Paul makes some very tasty English style ales on his 3.5 barrel system. It’s not a brewpub or a restaurant, but you can get tasters of all the brews on tap. Once you find a couple you like, have ’em fill a .5 gal growler and/or a swing-top liter for you to take with you. All of the beers are good, but I found the Lookout Stout and the Black Fang Imperial Stout to be especially noteworthy.. (Perhaps due to the highly Alkaline and Calcium makeup of the water supply there?) The owner was very friendly, talkative and welcoming. Highly recommended. |
