100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 JohnC (147) Mission Viejo, California | July 19, 2004 The highlight of the RBSG ’04 was the visit to HoTD. Alan was a warm and generous host. Knowing that RB was coming, he provided lunch, along w/ samples of rare and experimental HoTD beers.
As noted by many, the directions from MapQuest and Yahoo are wrong. At, http://www.hairofthedog.com/visithotd.html is a map. However, at this writing, the map has North on the bottom, South on the top, West on the right and East on the left. Normally I expect North on top (i.e. Powell is North of Holgate) and West on the left (i.e. the Ross Island Bridge is West of 26th) | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 ChillCoat (43) Concord, California | December 15, 2006 Don’t miss a tour when Alan has the smoker up and running. HOTD beers and smoked tri-tip plus picking Alan’s brain and visiting the winery next door... this was one of the highlights of my trip. I missed Oakes however even though he was there. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 BuckeyeBoy (91) Boise, Idaho | January 26, 2008 Just getting around to logging some of my Place ratings. Have be in Hair of the dog 2 times. The first was great. Alan gave me and my wife a tour of the place. Let me sample all of the Great stuff he has there. Even the GREAT DAVE WOW. The second was a quick stop picked up a case of some 07 stuff. Alan is a great guy. If you are in Portland YOU HAVE TO STOP IN. I wish we could get some HOTD stuff in Boise. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 jeffc666 (93) Fairfax, Virginia | August 10, 2004 This place is the bomb! Alan Sprints is one hell of a wonderful guy and he brews, single-handedly I might add, some kick ass beers. As those before me have said this was the true highlight of the 2004 RBSG. Alan was expecting our little group so we got very special treatment including lunch which consisted of a smoked beef tri-tip that was damn good. All the beers were amazing and I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to try so many of the rarer beers from Alan’s stash. I highly recommend a visit and I highly recommend buying many of Alan;s great beers! | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE N/A OVERALL 20/20 Sham (43) Seattle, Washington | October 27, 2004 RBSG04: All I have to say about this place is Alan is the man!!! Dave rules!! | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 MobBarley (6) , | December 14, 2012 Always been a fan of HOD. Best barley wine I have ever tried. They continue to impress me throughout their history in craft beer. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 beertiltheend (10) , | May 18, 2011 Love this place, one of my favorites. Excellent beer and service | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 Bigsilky (10) Charleston , | March 15, 2012 Single-handily made the price of a ticket to Portland worth the money! Food is very well priced and of much higher quality than anything I’ve ever seen at a brewpub, I mean that. Beer....What to say, 3 ounce tasters of everything make the night a lot of fun. Until of course those little glasses turn into big ones when you start to order off the ridiculous bottle selection. Apparently Mr. Sprints has kept every beer he’s ever made! Yes, I did splurge for the Adam batch 1, yes the Michael as well and the Matt. A 6 year Doggie claws? Yes. 6 hours later and a very tender cab ride home, things were right with the world. Excellent service, certainly felt that we were family and friends even though I live 3,000 miles away. Beer clean glassware and proper pouring as well. If you don’t stop in when your in Portland, delete your account from this website. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 10/10 OVERALL 20/20 3fourths (1082) Boulder, Colorado | September 7, 2010| Updated November 11, 2011 easy access from both west and easy sides. garage door entrance and open/high-ceilinged interior with a half-dozen tables and about 15 bar seats. small kitchen for grub and a few small coolers for bottles (most for on-premises only). taps include fred from the wood, adam, greg, blue dot, doggie claws 07, while bottles include 08 and 09 cherry adam, michael, matt, rose cassis, ruth and a few others. friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere. this area is slowly growing into something substantial, especially with the addition of clark lewis around the corner. | 100 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 20/20 timc100 (5) Park Ridge, Illinois | January 31, 2013| Updated November 11, 2011 A visit to this establishment made for a fantastic time in Portland! It was a beautiful summer day and the garage doors were open. Had a great well-reounded selection of their beers, knowledgeable bar tender, and I even got to talk with Alan himself! Still my favorite brewery and brewery visit |
