Any serious beer lover who ventures to Portland needs to visit Hair of the Dog. It's pretty hard to find, make sure you get directions from the brewery not MapQuest. The tour is short but informative. Alan is always willing to share some great beers with guests, often you'll get to taste one of those rare HoTD beers that only have 3 ratings. You can also buy HoTD beers there along with some imports. Exceptional!

One of my favorite places in Portland. World class beer and the food works well too. Been here several times while in Portland.

Visited December 10 and 13 2013. Cosy and pleasant place. Sells only their own beers but that doesnt matter because beers are amazing. Vintage bottles were so good that I had to come back for them after couple of days. Definitive place for beer travellers. Donít skip vintage Matt!

Visited here two days in a row in October í13. Very nice tap list that gives you a wide range of their beers with 1-2 "oak" beers on tap as well. The bottle list is very impressive. Tons of amazing older vintages but about 2x retail.
The food was good as well. Iíd go back a lot if I was local.

Great service and canít go wrong with pickled veggies. Nothing special on draft, but some interesting bottles for in house consumption.

Gotta admit Iím a bit star-struck to actually be here, HOTD in Portland. Itís a bit like meeting in the flesh someone who you thought was only a character from your dreams. But here I am, in a converted warehouse (what else??!!) with huge exposed wood beams and solid woodblock tables, remarkably warm in feel with brightly colored walls despite the relatively dim light. Thereís a great vibe here, evenly split between the Fiddlersí geezer crowd of which I consider myself a member and the hipster 30-somethings of Portlandia. (An aside: only in the USA or former Soviet Union do you have a country large enough to present variation as wide as your Portland hipster and your East Texas bubba).
Only a few tap:: Little dog, Ruth, Greg,Blue dot, Fred, Adam, Doggie Claws í13, Michael. But the bottle list runs deep, with rarer, older beers for on-site consumption and the usual shelf dogs as well as Otto and bourbon Fred to go..
Tasty cheese plate offers a lot of food for the $16 it costs. Children running around cause an initial WTF but kid-friendliness is awesome. Iím digging this brewery. Where we have Elliott Bay and Big Time and Elysian --- all perfectly respectable breweries --- you Portlandians have this place and Upright and Cascade. As a Seattlilte its rare to suffer from place envy, but itís happening now. Right on!

Vintage beers were slightly pricey but worth it. Good service and a strong list of vintage beers. Great atmosphere and strong service for a brewpub.

The Hair of the Dog Brewing Company location is tucked back in an industrial part of SE Portland, and can easily be missed if you do not know what you are looking for. HOTD is housed in an old warehouse, and the exposed beams and industrial steal give it a very strong ambiance. The wait staff are very friendly, and will go out of their way to make sure you enjoy yourself. Donít take that to mean they are pushovers though, and believe me, they can give it as well as they take it! I had the Reuben Sandwich, and it exceeded my expectations for pub food. We were not there to eat though; we were there to taste the menu of beers which constantly ranks in the top 25 worldwide! The beer also exceeded my expectations, which is hard to do, considering I was expecting a top 25 worldwide beer. HOTD does have a solid list of their most sought after beer, however they are only available for consumption in the bar, and they are a bit pricey. With that being said, tasting many of the beers is a transcendent experience, in particular, I really enjoyed the Otto! This is easily one of the top five locations in Portland for beer, if not the best!
