Opened Nov 2012. With 6 casks, 14 kegs and 100 bottles, easily one for the beer raters to flock to. Friendly and experienced staff that letís you try stuff and a relaxed ambience makes this the best beer pub in Edinburgh. Few marks off as some of the exotic bottles are overpriced. Havenít tried any of the food.

So after tasting at Craigís a few of us werenít quite ready to go home. So took bus to here. Nice decor and three levels. Beer list is most craft centric Iíve seen in city and I was able to get the welsh tick I always wanted. Fun joint and definitely one Iíd frequent if local.

2014-07-09. Pretty cool modern wood decor feels way less douchey than my online impression of it. Servers were friendly. Food was good but not entirely to my own tastes. chicken wings were more Texas BBQ than Buffalo sauce wise but were super tender. Pulled pork was good but smokey and not quite what I wanted. Mac and cheese was alternately richly cheesy and overly floury. Would definitely go back. Best tap line up in town when we were there by a significant margin, with a good range of styles and breweries. Space is larger than expected, spread across a couple of levels. Beer wise, definitely the best place in Edinburgh by a long margin. Atmosphere wise I like it but places like Cloisters and Bow Bar have a warmer more traditional feel.

Visited the Hanging Bat on a rainy Tuesday afternoon and was almost the only customer in the place. The staff were very knowledgeable and helpful in answering my questions about the new Scottish beer scene, and in helping me select beers to try. The selection was very good, focusing on local and regional brews. Everything I tried was interesting and of good quality, including a saison made at Hanging Bat and an Edinburgh-area IPA. I will say the beer was not cheap at 3-4 pounds per schooner, but for me it was worth it for the guidance, conversation, and excellent beers. Overall a terrific experience!

One of the best craft beer selection, Iíve seen in Europe. Nice interior and atmosphere. Helpful chatty staff. The only disadvantage were prices. Expensive. Will surely be back to check out whats on taps next time!

Modern place to have good craft beer in the city of Edinburgh.Though the place didnít impress me,the line up of taps and the bottles available did.A good choice to have good beer in Edinburgh. The staff was willing to help and knew about basic things. So among all the Tennentís and bad ales going around there i suggest it!

Definitely a top UK beer destination. Cool wooden design, well-motivated, enthusiastic staff, if not 100% independent about the beers. Tried to direct me away from the excellent bottle-conditioned Bethnal Pale Ale towards the perfectly decent but not as good Bethnal Pale Ale on tap, on the grounds that they were the same brew. Controversially using 2/3 pint glasses called schooners - a bit avant garde for traditional British drinkers. Some of the newer bottled beers cost an eye-watering sum but as Nancy Reagan said, íJust say noí.

Me and Loz visited here on Saturday 15th March 2014. This was my first visit here and I have to say despite the heavy weight of expectation from all of the positive reviews and comments that Iíd heard this certainly lived up to its Premier League billing, it was fab! This place is close to Cloisters another fine stop off but it is a million miles away in terms of beer variety and choice. The bat is literally right on the street, a flat fronted pub with a rather amusing but down at heel DIY looking sign, inside however things start to look much more professional, albeit pallets and old kegs etc are put to use for lighting attachment, sinks and a cistern, novel maybe but looks good. The bar is in front to the left as you enter with the beer board on the same side, there is a raised area to the right and it looked like additional seating downstairs. I thought the beer choice was excellent with a good many of the regions of the UK represented the bottle selection looked equally impressive. I had a superb Summer Wine Devil IPA Centennial on keg, Loz had a Hopcraft Golden Pixie on cask both were great. The staff were knowledgable and approachable, the place was quite busy for 4-5 on a Saturday afternoon. This is easily up there with the best in the UK, great bar.

Well ive given this place time to settle to get a better feel for it. So here goes. The hanging bat has a lot to recomend it, 14 Keg lines and 6 Cask lines as well as a considerable bottle selection. But its not not all about the numbers its the care taken in the selection. With the likes of Kernel, magic Rock and Harbour, on regularly as part of the rotating guest list, and the likes of Hawkshead , Moor and Luckie forming part of there Permanent theres a Garentee of Interesting beers and Its not uncommon to find 4-5 beers above 6% on at any one time. But this place has more to offer than just beer. The layout and Decor make this a very comfortable bar, some where you can easily pop into for a 10 minute quicky or spend several hour being slowly seduced by its delights. Food is well done and well priced, offering filling and snacky alternatives. With Regular meet the brewer events its possible to see 10-20 brews from one of the more intersting UK breweries on at the same time. But for me the one thing that puts the Icing on the Cake is that it Allows Children. While Edinburgh has many great pubs sadly too many of them are not child friendly, so to find a Bar this good that we can go out as a family to is a delight.
SO were into a new Year and this place is going strong, its amazing the beer you can find in here on a Random monday night like last night. Which Just makes it such a great place to have a drink on the way home, but its also nice to sit on a quietish weekend afternoon playing a game with the kids while having a couple of beers, but the Thing that really lift this place to Truely stunning is the Beer events about once a month a brewer will appear and the Bar will showcase their beer, often taking up all 20(21) lines
