Basement bar with three distinct rooms - a back room of tables, a side room of benches and tables, and of course the car itself. The tap selection is small but well chosen, and they seem to do a number of events. Not a bad place to spend some time.

Basement-level dedicated craft beer bar known throughout Wellington as being at the top of the game. I found the ambiance relaxing and comfortable when I visited during my first night in town, and I thought it would be a place to return, but I instead found myself busy enough the other nights in town that I never made it back. For a traveler to New Zealand, it has an incredibly deep selection of Kiwi micros. Dozen-plus drafts with 3/4 NZ beer and the rest imported micros (want Rogue on tap fresh as can be?). The Kiwi scene has itís share of wacky beek geek releases, but overall thereís more actual beer than flavored / treated beer... and being in New Zealand is all about new world hops and old world malt... the treasures of this country feature savory English maris otter malt with juicy, bright south island hops.

I canít hate on Hashigo Zake. Itís a true beer bar representing the best beers sourced locally and treats from abroad. Thereís always something new and interesting on tap, though you will need to be quick for some/most beers as the kegs do dry out fast. Thatís testament to the Wellington drinkers, people here want variety and a sense of quality of beer here. Staff are excellent. No doubt the bar does target the geekier crowd, and thatís fine, thereís plenty of other options for good beer around the city. The basement venue works and suits the ambiance that HZ is looking for. Tasty bar snacks. Hard to beat.

A dimly lit basement bar that was surprisingly difficult to find, though that might be more my fault than anything (they have a sign they place on the main street but it wasnít up the night we were trying to find the place). The entrance is not on the main drag, instead just inside an alley. Anyhow, we stopped in on an off night as we were there with only one other couple. Nicely set up bar area with a lounge room off the main part. Wide and eclectic selection of taps and bottles. A destination bar for sure. Knowledgeable and friendly barkeeper. Iíd love to come back when itís a bit more lively as Iím sure it is a hotspot.

Ok, it should be noted that I was affiliated with this place, but no longer. The bar nails pretty much everything I want from a bar - very knowledgable staff, well chosen beer, rare beer, good mix of domestic and import, tap selection is displayed on a TV and indicates when the next beer will come on. As well as having real ale and ciders plus some good non-beer stuff. Prices are reasonable, food is basic but very good. Only downside is that it can get very very crowded, also I prefer pubs with more food, but given that the food is of such good quality that point is somewhat irrelevant. One of my favorite pubs Iíve ever been and no that is not just because I used to be connected to the place.

Generally deserving of the hype and rating. Just another inner city basement bar but the selection, particularly the taps, is very serious and focused. Staff completely on top of their game but I do suspect, as noted below, you might cop a sly snigger if you asked for a pint of Stella. That said, I received excellent service although my Slowbeer connections were known. Some 7 world class IPA / DIPAs on the night we were in.

Nice underground place down an alley off the main CBD of Wellington. Quite a comical Heineken sign as you walk in which is worth a look. Typical bar ambiance but its cooler caus its underground. Service was sublime. Took the time to answer the questions I had and spent plenty of time with us. Great range of beers and a good assortment on tap as well. Also had some beer ageing in a small wine fridge on the back of the counter which were all for sale. Picked up some cool bottles out of the fridge which I could also take away with me. Loved the place and was a highlight of our trip. Spent a solid amount of time in and around Beervana with the manager as well which knew his stuff big time so props to him. Best bar in Wellington

Good lineup of taps that are constantly rotating. A number of internationals along with great local stuff. Staff knowledgable about beer. Some rare (and very pricey) bottles. Better to stick with draught. Food was good, but limited menu and portions small and not value for money-best to eat elsewhere.

Real nice place. So many finer details really nailed here. Taplists are current and show what is to come. Heck, show what music is being played there.
Brilliant service. A bit elitist at times but the staff know their beers and are willing to talk beer which makes it fun. Matching glasswear??? Nice touch.
Food is mostly snacks but well done snacks. Tap prices are very nice. Bottles are priced more to move so can be of good value. Range is solid. Not as good as what we get in Australia but a very good range.
Pretty much a world class venue and very much best venue in the Southern Hemisphere for beer
