Despite being a grungy underground location, this bar is cosy, and there is always something v hoppy on tap. Located in the Wellington CBD its a good place to hibernate in when its howling outside.

A small but well-formed basement area host to a trendy bar. Fairly busy on a Thursday evening having just finished a Craft Beer College event. Beer menu - both current and upcoming - available on screens around the bar. An interesting, well-priced tap list and extensive bottle range. Decorated with beer posters and paraphernalia which always holds my attention. Good and a fun little place for a drink and somewhere to hang out but nothing about it blew me away.

Maybe saturday night wasnít the time to go - it was party time and that dominated the atmosphere. Staff were good, but busy. Beer range was reasonable, and quality was very good. Food was fine - what I got was not what I expected based on what I ordered but was very nice.

Well deserved reputation as ítheí place to go for beer in Wellington (and likely New Zealand truth be told). While the number of taps is small - itís the fluid emanating from them that is important - and in that regard they definitely live up to their motto of "no crap on tap"! There no crap anywhere else either. The food selection, while limited, makes up for it in being unusual, interesting, and delicious. But itís the beer that is the star here (which is as it should be in a premier beer bar)!

Mrs Jimthechap and I arrived shortly after opening and so we more or less had the lace to ourselves. It was good to finally inspect this place as it has a considerable reputation. We were greeted by the barman and serious beer-nerd conversation ensued. Tasters were poured and more beer-nerd conversation followed. Mrs Jimthechap became steadily less impressed that her wedding anniversary was becoming a vehicle for me to talk about beer.
Anyway, interesting place with brewery artwork. Well-chosen tap beers and more bottles of beer that I havenít reviewed before than I have found anywhere else in New Zealand. I needed a good month and an unlimited cash supply to do justice to this place. I will come back... I have to come back.

Basement-level dedicated craft beer bar known throughout Wellington as being at the top of the game. I found the ambiance relaxing and comfortable when I visited during my first night in town, and I thought it would be a place I would return to but after a single session I had run out of things which interested me. Thereís a lot of "geek beer" here, more so than other places in town, meaning spiced and barrel-treated and smoked and other wacky stuff. Staff were decent fellows, knew their stuff, answered questions, made solid recommendations. Take my words with a grain of salt, Iím being picky here, youíre sure to find the selection one of the best in town, but to me it didnít deliver on the 90+ point RB place rating.

Best bar in wellington, in my opinion. The staff know their stuff and are always happy to recommend a beer and give a sample. Food is excellent quality, but a little (understandably) lacking in options. Beer range is excellent. Customers are a varied bunch. Also a great SOBA discount Sunday to Wednesday.

Good lineup of taps that are constantly rotating. A number of internationals along with great local stuff. Staff knowledgable about beer. Some rare (and very pricey) bottles. Better to stick with draught. Food was good, but limited menu and portions small and not value for money-best to eat elsewhere.

Enjoyed this place a fair amount. Nice selection of beers, especially the bottled beer. I had some dumplings that were also nice. Definitely one of the top 3 places in Wellington!

Ok, it should be noted that I was affiliated with this place, but no longer. The bar nails pretty much everything I want from a bar - very knowledgable staff, well chosen beer, rare beer, good mix of domestic and import, tap selection is displayed on a TV and indicates when the next beer will come on. As well as having real ale and ciders plus some good non-beer stuff. Prices are reasonable, food is basic but very good. Only downside is that it can get very very crowded, also I prefer pubs with more food, but given that the food is of such good quality that point is somewhat irrelevant. One of my favorite pubs Iíve ever been and no that is not just because I used to be connected to the place.

Basement bar with three distinct rooms - a back room of tables, a side room of benches and tables, and of course the car itself. The tap selection is small but well chosen, and they seem to do a number of events. Not a bad place to spend some time.
