68 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 10/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 13/20
Dinner with work on a travel to Berlin. Nice rustique ambience but with really loud tv-sets (visit was during soccer world championship). Staff was decent, beer list was fairly long (100 bieren) and was mostly german lager with some belgians and others in there.

Cibo ottimo comunque, specialmente i piatti tradizionali berlinesi.

Have visited this Charlottenburg bar on a couple of occasions, most recently Oct ’10.
Yes - it’s a bit gimmicky and some of the ’100’ beers (in reality it’s not likely to ever be 100 as my friends and I have requested a couple that weren’t in stock!) are beers you certainly wouldn’t bother with on a trip to Deutschland (ie Guinness!)
There are however a few interesting German beers that you may not find in other bars in Berlin.
Two of the times I’ve visited we’ve sat outside in the beer garden and people watched, it’s a fairly lazy/quiet back street to be honest!
Service has always been adequate.
Charlottenburg is a 10/15 minute train journey from Berlin Hbf, and the venue is 7 or 8 minutes walk from Charlottenburg station
Not really worth going out of the way for, but if you’re in the area for whatever reason , pop by!

Worst place I ever visited due to service. Came there with my students and ate one evening, where the food was decent and the beer nothing to get excited about. I asked the waitress if they had any IPA’s, and she looked at me with bewilderment. I asked again explaining it as "India Pale Ale" and while still looking confused, she answered no. The next day I came back with some colleagues and a small group of students, as this was close to our hotel and had the widest range of beers to offer. On they menu they serve Berliner Weisse "Ohne", meaning without schuss. I asked for that from the same waitress, that worked the day before - an elderly lady with red/brown hair whom you should avoid by all means, if you go there. She stared at me, saying that it was not a beer (in German), and I had to repeat what I wanted. She then repeated herself and looked at me as if I was an idiot. I insisted that I prefered my beer served that way. My colleagues then said to her, that I was kind of a beer expert which she laughed at. When she finally was going for our beers, I asked a question about the beer menu. Most of the beers were named by brewery, but beer number 69 just says "Gueuze Champagnerbier - Belgien Blond (the printed menu in german). I asked who made the beer, and she stopped and again looked at me like I was a total tool, saying "Aber das ist kein Berliner Weisse" - "But that is not a Berliner Weisse". I tried explaining to her, that I was well aware of that fact, but just wanted to know who made the damn beer, even listing potential brewers for her to pick. She never understood me and I never got an answer to my question. When she served my beer it was with a "Beer expert...pfffttt" and a chuckle. Who the f¤%# is she to discuss taste with a customer? I wanted to pull the card about owning one of the absolute best beer stores in the world, but it wouldn’t have helped as she wouldn’t have believed nor understood me. What an obnoxious clown!

84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 15/20
This was my favorite beer bar in Berlin for three years (87-90), I revisited in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2012 (Jan). The British sector had some good watering holes and this one is still going strong.
It is a great place to have a draught beer, 15 different (Andechs Doppelbock dunkel, Duckstein, Klostriker Schwartzbier, 6 German Pilsners, a Kolsch, Weihenstephen Hefewiessbier and some non-German beers also.) There is always a draught beer of the month at a cheap price, my last visit it was Warsteiner Pils.
The bottled selection covers the world, mostly well known brews, but still very impressive, especially in Berlin, where beer choice is not a big thing yet.
The staff are all pretty young ladies, with one young lad pouring the beers for them all, he works bloody hard, the girls just look good, I hope they share their tips with him.
Very German in decor, all wood and heavy tables. The conservatory doubles the size of the place, outside drinking is also available.
The food is big, bold and good. They have specials on various nights and huge buffet breakfasts that go on until 12.00 (as well as other breakfast options), on Sundays and holidays it extends into a buffet brunch until 15.00. We shared a cheese platter on my last visit and the four of us couldn’t finish it.
This is a lot better than the new place they have set up in Potsdammer Platz, this is the original and is well worth seaching out.

Neat location and good views through the many windows, though I’ve long noted this part of Charlottenburg for its strange mix of highs and lows; lots of shopping and some upper-middle class restaurants and boutiques, but also lots of sleaze and quite a few down-on-their-luckers. Eisbein was nearly as big as a bowling ball, and though I fought bravely, it was a battle I could not hope to win. Service was friendly but slow, and there’s a lot of Berlin (and its Schnauze) in this place. Get the feeling that old friends from the neighborhood have been coming here for years, but there were also single businessmen and some out on dates. Beers are what you’d expect from this type of place, but there should still be something for everyone.

Mommsen Eck serves German traditional food and rather wild beer selection, lot of Belgians and other typical international stuff apart from German beers. The food was well worth the money. Schweinhaxe cost around 8 euros and the Belgian beers ca. 4e á. Although the beerlist is quite impressive for a Berlin German kneipe/ restaurant, they didn’t have Duvel so I went for Satan Red, which was little ironic. The food was quite cheap and hearty, beer prices however were a bit too pricy in my opinion.

Went there for dinner and the food was good without being fantastic in any way. The place has beers from many different countries, though some of them are Belgian and not from the African countries they’ll have you believe. The selection could use some more quality beers. The staff was friendly, but they didn’t seem to know too much about beer.

The selection is fairly for a German pub, but not particularly well picked. When it comes to atmosphere, the place itself is a typical German Kneipe or Wirtshaus. The prices seem to be a bit above average.
