86 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 bootsjohn (23) Texas | December 10, 2012 Great place to stop if you’re circling Orange looking for a drink or bite.
Nice bottle selection and a good draft list, too. Service was on point and timely. Didn’t eat, so nothing to say on that front.
They were out of a few things listed, so don’t get your hopes too high. Otherwise, a nice stop for a local or traveler. | 76 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 14/20 womencantsail (390) Garbage Grove, California | August 2, 2012 Gastropub located at the south end of the Oragne Circle. Food is pretty good, but you certainly pay for it. Beer list is good as well. Pretty good rotation on the taps, which is nice. Good service and a nice ambiance to the place. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 gimmeabeer (10) , | April 12, 2012 **Sidenote: I am a longtime patron of this establishment, so my experience with service may be different.
I love to be at this place. Many people refer to it as somehow pretentious or uninviting. I think that is certainly a valid point, depending on when you and go and can be attributed to how they have changed over the years.
The interior is very nice and seemingly lowkey (anytime other than a saturday or friday night). My experience with the service is that they are friendly and knowlegable, but again, that may be biased. Chef Greg is a genius when it comes to finding new ways to reinvent pub food. They have one of the best burgers anywhere, and the truffle fries, mac n cheese, oxtail poutine or out of this world.
The beer selection, unfortunately, has declined and the prices have increased. This is the biggest downside. They still have a great selection, especially when it comes to brews from Shipyard and the occasional rare sour on tap. The prices, however, are way off par for what you get. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 9/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 JoeTheYounger (44) Claremont, California | December 13, 2011 Located on the same street as Bruery Provisions I decided to have some dinner while in town. Food was excellent. The chef there really knows what he is doing. I got the house burger which was cooked perfectly, juicy and full of flavor. My lady got the house made buffallo wings and those were really good too. Some good brews on tap and good bottles. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 8/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 14/20 Dixonian (116) Dallas, Texas | August 9, 2011 Went here for a late dinner on a Thursday night and had the chicken and waffles. They have an above average selection of brews on tap and in bottles. Our waiter was friendly and seemed to know at least a little bit about good beer. Prices were a bit high on food and booze but quality was high as well. Overall a nice addition to the very cool downtown Orange area. | 70 AMBIANCE 3/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 14/20 Barreras (21) Diamond Bar, California | June 4, 2010 A nice and different take on a beer bar. The overall ambiance of the restaurant fits in well with the "Old Town" area. bartender and wait staff are friendly and attentive but not very beer knowledgeable. Beer selection is very good, for they have limited brews and many a new beer I had not tried before. This is not the place to order a Corona. Food was decent, the Value was a bit pricey. I would visit again if in the area. | 94 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 14/15 FOOD 10/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 19/20 buenosdiaz (10) California | June 1, 2010 Pricey and crowded. Top notch beer selection and cuisine. Love their tap sampler pours. | 70 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 6/10 OVERALL 14/20 kbm (1) , California | January 3, 2010 I’ve been to Haven’s three times now. I live close and really want to like this place.
My first two visits were near disaster but they have straightened out most of those kinks.
There are a few tables in the place that are unforgivably uncomfortable. Avoid any of the tables that abut the window. The place really strives to be comfortable but it just doesn’t work for me. Maybe after a few years and all the shinny things get some age, it’ll be more suited for my taste.
The beer selection is good but not anything to write home about. First, the tap menu doesn’t really make sense to me. I think I counted four or five wheat beers on the 12-15 taps. You’ll find a few beers from the bruery and firestone and more generic taps. i.e. Guinness. The bottle list is decent with a focus on Belgians but the pricing is a little bit confusing, some beers are priced cheap while others are inexplicably expensive.
Bartenders are attentive but not beer savvy.
None of the food has really impressed me but it’s not bad.
Overall, Haven’s is worth a stop but don’t have too high of an expectation. It’s a good non-beercentric restaurant with good beer. | 74 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 6/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD 6/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 15/20 Blake (11) Orange, California | December 17, 2009 A new gastropub in Old Towne Orange, Haven serves up a decent selection of beers, however, I’ve found the food to be lacking the couple of times that I’ve visited. The home made chips are pretty good though, but I usually just go for the beer. They have the best selection in Old Towne and usually feature some good craft beers on tap and though service isn’t always that attentive, they do try to keep your glass full. Recommended if in Old Towne, but I wouldn’t travel great distances to try this place out. | 84 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 7/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 5/10 VALUE 5/10 OVERALL 17/20 JohnC (147) Mission Viejo, California | September 18, 2009 This is a new place in Old Towne Orange a few yards south of the circle on Glassell; thanks to Ralph for pointing it out to me.
It’s a very nice, comfortable place inside. The food limited and a tad pricey, although what we had was very good. The menu choices were: homemade potato chips, fritto misto, French onion soup, house salad, margherita pizza, a burger, fresh catch or mussels.
Now onto the beer, 14 taps today had, all at $6:
Saison Dupont, Hemp AleNector, Paulaner Hefe, Weihenstephaner Original Lager, Blanche de Bruxelles White, Firestone Union Jack, Guinness, Firestone Oaktoberfest, Unibroue Noire de Chambly, Stone Smoked Porter, Bruery Berliner Weisse, Bruery Autumn Maple and Stone Arrogant Bastard. Plus, there were 30 bottles available. No macros.
