Nice little cafe with an amazing selection of bottles and growlers. Stopped by with the wife for a sandwich on a Sunday afternoon. Place was pretty crowded with most tables taken. They had a nice fire going in the fireplace. Service was quick and then the owner came over and talked for a few minutes about the place. Both sandwiches were exceptional and they give you home made chips on the side. The growler selection had about 20 and I settled on The Bruery Rugbrod. They also had a big bottle selection from which I selected 2 Russian River beers which I have never seen in these parts. Prices for the food and beer seemed reasonable although the one Russian River was $33.00. If you have a screw top growler, they will fill it for you even if it’s from some place else. When in Philly, give it a try. They are a couple of blocks south of Broad St. and right across the street from Bella Vista Beer Distributors. Not far from the Italian Market either.

Happened upon Hawthorne’s the day after they opened on a visit to Philadelphia. The place is a great concept: a bottle shop inside a cafe where you can get gourmet sandwiches, pour and drink bottles from the coolers, and buy growlers from more than a dozen craft brewery taps. I left with Cigar City Marshall Zhukov and Improvisation bombers, plus Bells Kalamazoo Stout and Founders Backwoods Bastard 12 oz bottles.

This place has more of a deli feel to it, with very tasty and creative sandwiches, a solid tap list - including two Cigar City drafts - and a very impressive bottle selection that you can drink on site or take away - for a discount. Prices are a bit higher than elsewhere for some things, but not everything. Service is absolutely stellar, I couldn’t ask for anything more. A must-try in Philly.

Love this place. Went with Leafs93 to celebrate completing the bar exam. Did not eat any food. But the magic of this place is that you can roll up, pick your bottle (great selection) and drink it out in the sidewalk cafe seating. Real relax, real chill. Just good stuff. Will definitely go back next time I am down in Philly. Only one issue. They have jars that you can drink the beer out of. While it was interesting the first time. I think it would be an improvement to have different types of beer glass to choose from. Nothing crazy, perhaps just tulips and snifters... along with the jars.

Update: After a few more visits, need to up my rating. This place is great, but again they need to lower some of their prices on certain brews.
Have visited this place a few times as its a short walk away. Very solid and rotating selection of beers, some warm but most stored in the coolers.(I wanted something warm and the cashier went in the back and found me a bottle) Rotating growler selection but the prce of the growler is high...but they have giveaways every so often that I seem to always miss. Have had dinner here as well as just sat outside for a couple of drinks. Food is decent but pricey. All in all this is a great spot in Bella Vista and I hope it sticks around. The staff are nice and seem to know what they are talking about.

Had an afternoon to kill in downtown Philly, and decided to perform a pub crawl, since I live in the beer hinterlands of S. Florida (where Blue Moon is considered a cutting edge craft beer by the locals and restaurants/bars).
I was given a recommendation by a beer buddy to try Hawthornes, so I walked the 20 minutes from the hotel I was staying at to their location. WOW--what a beer selection! I’m a beer snob, and thought I knew my beers. This place had ales that I’d never heard of. Owners were friendly, helpful, and fun to talk to. Food was off-the-hook good. Service was superb. If in Philly, this place is a mandatory stop for the beer lover in you.

a great place to stop by for a good meal or just beer to go. Nice country summer feel to the place equipped with a wall of beer refrigerators in the back corner. Great draft selection as well. Friendly staff.

Right across the street from Bella Vista beer and north of Devils Den ... Nice clean bright atmosphere more like a coffee shop/deli look than a bar but was a nice change of pace .... 8 taps 12 growler fills and a organized and priced cooler in the back that had lots of west coast and an awesome door of belgians that you don’t see around often .... the food was great had the short rib tacos and my pal had the french quarter .... the staff was knowledgeable and friendly ... the prices for draft were $6-$8, entrees $13-$16 and burgers for $10 good selection of pickies as well .... all in all i’d definitely come here again
