Really? People are commenting on the theme?! I would understand if this were a "Rate Interior Decor" site... thank all that is holy that it is not! If youíre looking for something that you canít find anywhere else in Boulder County (see also CO), then you need to visit Hazels. Clean and organized appearance. Their dedication to the rare and unique is evident as soon as you glance in the direction of the beer department. The shelves are stocked to the brim with the local, regional, domestic and imported rarities. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and helpful. I will drive the extra few miles past Superior Liquor and avoid the extra couple blocks to Liquor Mart for the comparable prices and service that Hazels offers. If only theyíd put some effort into redecorating the interior... haha... but seriously, get the f*ck out of here with that shiznit. Hazels is where itís at!

Donít know about some of the other reviews on this place - the beer managers are personal friends and have an extensive knowledge about their stock and a passion for talking about it. Every time Iím in there, there is always staff at the beer coolers asking browsing patrons if they want a hand with anything. Prices are fine, and for a new store, theyíre already doing great at stocking beers you wouldnít necessarily expect them to get in addition to stocking some beers I havenít seen elsewhere (Oud Beersel Oude Kriek, for instance).
When I was in last week, they had just received Crabtree Menage a Trois (one of just a few stores in the state to get any at all). Their Sunday specials with the membership card (which Iím in favor of to get free or cheaper stuff, who doesnít like that?) has had some awesome deals on it. The wine specials they run with it are absolutely crazy sometimes, and they mega-marked down Boulevard 12-packs to $13, including Zon and specialty packs.
Itís a huge store and right on Boulderís main drag, so itís going to get a lot of traffic - ultimately itís not going to be the place for "finds." But for a healthy bit of competition for Liquor Mart, which is typically the high-water mark in town for prices, is ultimately a good thing.

about as large a selection as you can find in Denver/Boulder. my complaint is that they still store German and Belgian beers warm on the shelf, but as long as they have more in the cooler then Iím cool with it.

Now that it has been a while since this place first opened, a more accurate rating can be given...itís clearly the best beer shop in Boulder. Basic warehouse sorta place, but they pack in tons of beer and get new stuff almost every week. There are certainly some old bottles gathering dust here, as with any warehouse store, but itís mainly the import section that suffers. Winter/Xmas time is a particularly hot time here, as they set up another free-standing shelf in the middle of the aisle just to support all the xmas brews that come in (most of which sells out fairly quickly). I confess I visit Liquor Mart a lot less these days, but that place is certainly still competing fairly well nonetheless (and it usually has slightly better prices than Hazelís). Any outsider coming to Boulder would be well-advised to visit both.
